About this project
Istanbul is a magical and mysterious city rich with history and culture! For the past 2 summers I have had the honor of visiting, exploring, and really getting to know the city. This summer I plan to return and share this experience for viewers back home by creating a book and film entitled "The Magic of Istanbul". Shot in high definition, the final film will be part photo essay, part travelogue, part history, and part cultural expose - edutainment at its best!
The slide preview is a sample of photos I took from my previous expeditions to Istanbul.
Over the course of 14 days we will explore all of the key sites of Istanbul including:
The Blue Mosque, The Mosaic Museum, The Museum of Turkish and Islamic Art, The Istanbul Museum of Archeology, The Grand Bazaar, The Arasta Bazaar, The Spice Bazaar, The Hagia Sophia, Hagia Irene, Suleymaniye Mosque, Sehzade Camii, The Basilica Cictern, Topkapi Palace, Bucoleon Palace, Dolmabahce Palace, Beylerbeyi Palace, The Palace of the Porphyrogenitus, Yedikule Fortress, The Theodosian Walls, Chora Church, Taksim Square, Istiklal Caddesi, Gallata Tower, Rumeli Hisari, Istanbul Cevahir, Anadolu Kavagi, Galata Bridge, Koska, Ali Muhiddin Haci Bekir, Sirkeci Station, Yoros Kalesi, The Valens Aqueduct, The Column of Constantine, The Hippodrome, A Bosphorus Cruise, and a Day trip to Cappadocia including Devrent Valley, Pasabag/Monk’s Valley, Avanos Pottery Village, Goreme, and Uchisar Citadel
Along the way there will be eating, dancing, shopping, a Turkish Bath and maybe even a straight razor shave!
I have set the fundraising goal to $19,500. The majority of the funds go to pay for the trip (for myself and my cameraman/writer) this includes airfare, baggage fees, hotel, and admission fees, the remaining funds go for the post production costs to create both the book and the Blu-ray/DVD of the film.

Jared Bendis is an award-winning filmmaker, installation artist, photographer, teacher, and playwright. Jared is a specialist in photography, virtual reality, and computer graphics and serves as the Creative New Media Officer for Case Western Reserve University’s Kelvin Smith Library. As The Creative New Media Officer, Jared weaves together cutting-edge technologies with proven, innovative pedagogical strategies to create rich multimedia experiences, he also holds adjunct appointments where he teaches multimedia, instructional technology, and New Media literacy. Jared received his B.A. from Case Western Reserve University in Psychology with minors in Music and Art Studio and his M.A. in Art Education from the joint program of Case Western Reserve University and The Cleveland Institute of Art. He is co-owner of Lemming Labs which develops interactive media applications for the iPhone and iPad.
On his first trip overseas, in March 2000, Jared visited the Chateau de Pierrefonds in France and became driven (if not obsessed) with capturing and sharing cultural and architectural experiences. As an artist and teacher, Jared has photographed over 400 architectural, archeological and cultural sites (primarily castles) in 14 countries.
