Update #1: thank you and indigo dye

Posted on February 6, 2010

Thank you to everyone who has already pledged for my project. I can't believe it and am so honored to receive your help and support. I can't wait to return the favor by giving back.

I also wanted to say that I just picked up an order last night for indigo dyed dresses for Frei Designs.
http://www.freidesigns.com/index.html

Annie, designer of Frei, makes beautiful, urban and stylish garments and owns the really quite amazing boutique, Workshop, at 18th and Halsted in Chicago. Stop by if you get a chance. I'll be dropping off the indigo dresses later this week and will post a pic soon.

Indigo is one of my favorite dyes. The dye bath is a bright yellow/green color. After the fabric has been immersed, it comes out of the bath yellow and slowly starts to turn blue through oxidation. It's like watching a magic show, or a photographic process. The fabric is dipped many times, say 12 times, over as many days to achieve a dark blue color. It's beautiful.

Thanks again and I'll be updating as we go!

Connected as Jane Palmer (388 friends)

Let's see...

Became obsessed with textiles as a youngster

Received not only one, but yes, two degrees in textiles

Started Noon Solar with my friend, which is a business that integrates flexible solar panels into bags to charge up cell phones and iPods

Started naturally dying fabrics for Noon Solar because we couldn't find them anywhere else

Started Noon Design Studio with same friend, in order to naturally dye fabrics for other designers, artists and generally rad people who also love them

And am now taking on Noon Design Studio as a personal and solo project because I love it.

And that, my friends, is what is called full circle, or in my amazing world of eco-textiles, a closed-loop cycle.

Thanks for all the support, I am so grateful to be given a chance to do what I love to do!
