MARCHING BANNED will be an Experimental Dance Film throwing a bombastic musical experience into an otherwise unassuming Urban setting
MARCHING BANNED is the brainchild of the Chicago-based artists Danièle Wilmouth (filmmaker), Peter Carpenter (dancer / choreographer), and MUCCA PAZZA (a 30 piece circus punk marching band).
Celebrating the rejuvenating powers of music, dance and mayhem, MARCHING BANNED ultimately comments on empathy and collective consciousness. A film following the pandemonium created by a 30-member circus punk marching band as it navigates through a placid, everyday scene in the city of Chicago. The collaborators subvert the forms of the traditional marching band, designing intricate choreography for the camera and people, maintaining the spontaneity of "ACTIONS FOR JOY."
MARCHING BANNED will be a 10 minute dance movie shot on Super 16mm film and completed on HD video. The foundation of the film will be 2 or 3 songs in MUCCA PAZZA’s repertoire. We will see the band performing these songs in a variety of inappropriate locations, and interacting with the people and architecture of these spaces.
Pre-production began in October 2010, shooting will be in April and May of 2011. The completed film will premiere in the fall of 2011 at the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC) in Troy, New York.
MARCHING BANNED is the 2010 – 2011 winner of the EMPAC Dance MOViES Commission. Creation of the film itself will be funded by the Jaffe Fund for Experimental Media and Performing Arts, Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC), and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, in Troy, New York.
However, this commission WILL NOT FUND EXHIBITION & DISTRIBUTION OF THE FILM. Therefore we are asking you to help us raise at least $4,000 for things like…. Making professional DVDs of the film, making posters, postcards & a website to promote the film, and of course applying to film festivals & exhibiting the film around the USA and the world!!
All contributors will receive the Kickstarter Backer Reward based on contribution level AND your email will be added to the Mucca Pazza film Chicago Premiere Invite list! (we have no idea when or where that will be but it will be astounding!)
