Are you a hacker? For all the programmers and coders comes an idea for a sweet t-shirt to represent. Help me get the initial run going!
What's this all about
I'm a designer and t-shirt lover, and also a code junkie. I came up with a fun idea for a t-shirt that I would love to wear, and I think others would. So I'm trying to produce the shirt. But in order to minimize financial risk in getting them made and sold, I'm following a pre-sale funding model here with this Kickstarter project.
What the shirt is about
The shirt design is in celebration of the people who make software and websites: HACKERS. The "git 'er done" people of the technology world - modern cowboys if you will.
The design is a simple and minimalist design, incorporating a simple concept of a computer monitor, and a banner with one of my favorite fonts of late, Liberator, by Lost Type Co-Op.
Details about the shirt
The shirts will be printed on a 30 single heather t-shirt from Saavy Tees (a division of Trau & Loevner in Pittsburg, PA). They will be tagless, and they are super soft. Shirt sizes run a little small, so consider a size up unless you like the slim fit.
I have printed on these tees before for the Grace & Truth shirts in my current online shop (JAG Shop). You might also have worn these shirts before as Saavy Tees also makes all of those vintage Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, Mt. Dew, Pillsbury, and other officially licensed tees you can get at Walmart.
There is going to be a heather gray, heather charcoal, and heather baby blue produced. Future runs of the shirt will be sold in my online shop at a higher price than what you'll get them for on this project.
Also, the shirt is going to glow in the dark. Boom!!
Thanks for backing my project!!!
The shirts are going to be produced by Trau & Loevner, a company in Pittsburgh that I've dealt with several times before (both for personal projects and projects for my employer). They're the nation's largest distributor of licensed apparel, such as the Coca-Cola tees, Mt. Dew tees, Tootsie Roll tees, and other popular brands you see sold at the nations largest retailers like Walmart, Khols, Target, etc.
I have a good friend who works in their art department and he put me in touch with a very helpful guy in their sales department who has been happy to fulfill several projects before.
The shirts are a 30 single heather, manufactured specifically for Trau & Loevner under their "Saavy Tees" brand.
They are a very soft t-shirt, and relatively thin compared to something like a generic Anvil shirt. They are similar in quality to American Apparel, but much less expensive.
In my experience they run slightly small and if you like a snug fitting tee, then great. Otherwise consider a size up from your actual t-shirt size.
Also, they are tagless.
That depends how you like your shirts to fit. These are made to be unisex, but are comparable to a men's t-shirt size. However they do run a little snug, so if you like your shirts loose then consider requesting a size up.
I don't see a size option in the backing reward categories, only color options. How will you know what size I want?
After the project is over and assuming it's fully funded, then I'll send out a message to everyone requesting their size at that time, and confirming shipping details.
The tentative answer is in May...sometime. I will be moving quickly once the project reaches funding, but depending on demand it may take longer than I anticipate to fulfill orders (for example if I far exceed my funding and get way more orders than I expect). In which case I'll appreciate your patience while I get orders fulfilled as quickly as I can.
Same goes for stickers and buttons.
I'm planning to have Stickermule make them since I've worked with them before, and because they make a really nice sticker that can go on your iPhone or the cover of your Macbook and is easily removable. They'll be small enough to cover the back of an iPhone.
They are going to be 1" buttons, and I'm planning to use a vendor I've purchased buttons from before: Threadbird.
Yes. I make shirts as a personal project because I am a t-shirt junkie. I've designed and produced several shirts before, some of which you can buy right now at http://shop.joelglovier.com.
I also design and produce shirts as part of my full-time role as principal designer at CURE International (http://cure.org), which you can see at http://store.cure.org.
Yes. I would simply ask you to consider a $5-$10 higher pledge than your reward level to help me cover the higher cost of international shipping.
What about shirts for chicks? I'm a girl and I don't want a shirt that's going to fit like a dress. Can you do girl sizes?
I can't do actual girl sizes because of demand. Not enough girls are interested to be able to do a run of girls shirts.
The other problem is that out of the girls I've talked to already about t-shirts like these that I've done in the past, they prefer to just have men's shirts in a size that will fit them. I've been told that a lot of girls don't really like the v-neck, girl fitting shirts. And in my experience with women's shirts (with CURE store inventory at least) the girls shirts tend to be prohibitively sized - meaning that only the thinnest of chicks can wear them. Even the XL in women's is really small.
The upside is that since these shirts are a little more snug fitting then most men's shirts, you might be okay with a small or a medium (at your discretion of course).
All of them will glow in the dark.
Yes, I'll ship the shirts to you for the cost included in the reward price. However, anything above and beyond to help cover shipping is appreciated.
However, for international shipping (outside USA), please included $5-$10 extra.
