ABOUT THE BOOK
Greetings! My name is Alonda Thomas and I am the author of the book, “It’s Okay to Wait: A Father / Daughter Conversation,” the story of a father who sits down with his adolescent daughter to have “the talk” about sex. Through his experience of well-earned life lessons and faith principles, he describes some of the stumbling blocks she may encounter on the road to love. Sensing that she can speak honestly to her dad without being judged, the daughter reveals her concerns and asks questions about dating, love and marriage.

I wrote this picture book for “tweens” after observing the advanced sexual awareness of today’s youth and wanting to help share a method that parents and teens can use to approach the topic of sex in a way that removes the fear, nervousness and anxiety. The book’s revealing glimpse into an intimate moment between a parent and teen will stimulate conversation for anyone faced with their own “talk” and encourage a healthy discussion about self-esteem, self-worth and discernment.

ABOUT THIS PROJECT
I am self-publishing this book because it is not your typical children’s book or young adult book, thus many publishing companies were hesitant when I presented this idea to them. However, I feel passionately that this message needs to be heard! Your contribution to this Kickstarter campaign will support the publishing, PR/marketing and distribution of “It’s Okay To Wait”. The funds will help get the book into the hands of as many young people as possible through speaking engagements with youth organizations in various cities. Additionally, a portion of the funds will be used to conduct focus groups to gather research for a second book targeted to young men. Any extra funds raised beyond the $7,000 goal will go toward increasing the print run and building a more robust web site for the book that can include statistics and parent/teen support features.
