Here's where the money is going: (We thought you should know)
4,000-6,000, buying a 1977-79 VW Vanagon.
1,000-2,000, equipment cost including a loom and chemistry supplies.
1,000-2,000, beginning conversion on the Van to run on biodiesel.
500-1,000, goes back to you guys in the form of gifts.
Our Story:
Over the past year we have envisioned a collective of fiber artists creating a new type of textile product based fully on a sustainable ethos and serve not only as artisans and craftspeople, but as teachers to the public.
Ikat Matinée (pronounced: eee-cot) was created to scrutinize the current textile market, to push the limits of construction, aesthetic, and conscience, while exposing the harm of a “throw away” culture.
The process of textile production is a beautiful one, evolved over thousands of years, spanning continents and cultures. Before the oil burning of this century, true textiles were hand-made from start to finish and worn with the pride of knowing the original crafts-person. Today, clothing, home-decor, and other textile products go through an overwhelming process of design, outsourcement, penny-labor, and consumerism.

We, as a collective, seek a change in thinking, and a new pattern of creation. It is our promise that all textiles developed by ikat Matinée are produced with sustainable ideals (ie. natural dyes, organic fibers, green energy production), hand construction, and true safety standards.
Phase One (This is where you come in!)
Knowledge is change. Changing the future for an industry means changing the way consumers think of the products they purchase. In the textile industry, that means people need to understand where their clothes, sheets, curtains, rugs, etc. are actually coming from and the process that has been developed to produce such goods.
Our Goal: To TEACH this process.
What We Need: A vehicle to get us (and our equipment) there.
It takes a lot of stuff to make textiles, spinning wheels, looms, silk screens, dark room equipment, dyes, sewing machines, and so on. Lots of this stuff we already have! :) But to teach people how, we want to be able to go to them: to farmers markets, craft shows, schools, churches, organizations, city parks, the side of the road! Pull out our equipment, and teach, just like that, on the spot.
The second part of this is to have a place to sell ours (and other artists) products. ikat Matinee is a collective: a multiple of artistans who come together to make and to teach. We represent a group of artists that believe in a sustainable initiative and are willing to limit themselves to create with those ideals.
What you give us will serve as a mobile studio, to work out of, to teach out of, and to give out of.
The Rewards (Here's what we'll give you)

interests+specialties: weaving and weave construction, screen-printing.
“I enjoy the process of things, showing, through my work, the reason behind why I spent the time doing it. I stare at scarves. I study their structure, their nature, the fibers. I’m strange like that.”

“I want people to see the passion I put into my work with just one look. Making products from start to finish is something that has always been important to me. I am not interested in someone else making my designs. I want to get my hands dirty and put my heart into everything I make.”
