I'm Spike. I was born in DC, grew up in MD, and live in IL. I draw all day.
Likes: Squid-based snacks, video games, buskers, jump blues, hairless dogs, balls-to-the-wall indie anything, and NPR.
Dislikes: Marzipan, particle board, and licensed property LEGO sets.
My primary project is a comic called "Templar, Arizona." It's an alternate history slice-of-life story. I bet you'd like it.
Over 2 years in the making...
Hi guys. Any update on the project? Looking forward to reading.
Just wondering.... will there be additional copies for sale after publishing? I bet once I have a copy in hand, I will find quite a few people who would want a copy of their own...
An update on the status of this project would be welcome. The projected six months' dev has turned into almost two years.
According to the most recent update, we should see this thing around the end of this month or July. Is everything still going according to schedule?
Ditto, would love an update. Thanks!
amazing job, good luck with everything else
This is amazing!!! I am so happy that someone took the time to create this! I would like to suggest a site that helped me remain frugal. http://www.ecofreek.com is awesome for finding eveything free and swappable on the internet.
How's the project going? Been a while since we heard anything.
So awesome that this got funded. Love Templar, AZ and can't wait to get a copy of Poorcraft!
I'm so glad you got funded! That's really cute!! I want to make a, unique comic book someday.
Thx for the update :)
Any word on what's happening? There was a self imposed 6 month deadline on this, and there've been no updates since March, and I don't see anyone answering the comments. So What's up?
any more news on poorcraft? I'm sure i'm not the only one of your 700 backers who are curious to know what's going on with the project!
I'd really love to see an update with a couple more storyboards. I'm so excited about this project for my coffee table of interesting and useful literature!
hmmm.....love the topic! Very interesting....and extemely topical now that everyone is piss poor!
is there an ETA on when the book will be ready? I'm not bothered by the time it's taking or anything. These things take a long time! I'm just curious.
Congratulations!
likewise, I would've loved to pledge for a copy but the deadline has run out, can I still pay for a copy?
Same answer than Michael, where can I get a copy?
I wish I saw this project back in December before the deadline. I'll love to order a hard copy of Poorcraft - is that still possible? Thanks!
I want to get a PDF - I would gladly pledge 5$ - heck, I'd get the hardcover if I didn't live in Korea. But I can't click ANYWHERE on a live pledge link.... :(
Cool idea. I hope you include ideas about how to share with neighbors so people can save together. Let me know if you do, maybe run some of your content to help promote when it's done. Neal from Shareable.net. Feel free to contact. neal at shareable dot net
So, is it too late to pledge? I even added /pledge/new onto the project URL and it says the project isn't live.
It looks as great as I had imagined, and I'm proud to have contributed to it. And having been laid off, Poorcraft is going to be essential reading. I just have to hang in long enough to see it reach print.
I am so very happy for you and the first pages look awesome!
It feels great to have given to this project. Congrats on reaching your goal, Spike/Diana...and thanks
Congratulations on meeting and WAY EXCEEDING your goal! :) Can't wait to see the finished product - it's such a great idea. I was glad to be able to contribute!
Thanks for setting this up! It is the first Holiday purchase that has made me really REALLY happy. Kudos!
Since PoorCraft is funded 200% x2+, I hope the books are published with good quality paper.
Yeah! 200% Funded! Congratulations, Spike and Diana :D
oooh less than 300 to 12 thousand!
You know I'd hook you up!
MAKE IT SO!!!
You know, I've always felt guilty about not giving you money. I love your work and wanted to demonstrate its worth to me -- but honestly I just don't like having stuff that much, and I didn't want to own a book when the whole comic was online. So I'd rather just give you money than buy something. But if I'm giving you money, since there are other people whose work I like I'd better give them money too... and there are just so many of them...
This is why I love the Kickstarter Poorcraft model so much. It gives me a genuine, straightforward means to help you do the stuff I love reading, while arresting the urge to generalize for the sake of consistency. (Nobody else on my list is doing a Poorcraft-y project.) Spread the word -- you've solved a genuine problem here.
Arrr, more people need to buy 500's, it will be a sad and lonely picknic with only two people and a dog. I wish I had money for it. D:
Hi, please make it now, like, really fast.
They are laying off at the place where I work...
Oh, and if you could include a chapter on aquiring instant skill and talent I'd apreciate it.
If I could swing more, I would, but reviewing video games doesn't exactly leave one rolling in dough. My husband and I think this is a great idea, and kudos to both of you for making it happen for realsies.
ps, Especially looking forward to recipes!
... pps, Templar is the best and you guys rule.
I say, screw 10k go for 12!
All I can manage is $10, I'm afraid (small fender bender with the Fiance's car sees to my spending this year :( ) But, it's what I can manage, and I'm the 500th backer :) Wootage and stuff :) Looking forward to it.
I can't believe I never checked this out before. I'd seen it and for some awful reason I never clicked on it. Stupid, stupid me...
Anyways, $30 to ya. Looking forward to it greatly.
Just pledged $15.00 and can't wait to get my book! I love your work Spike; although I'll admit, until i saw the Poorcrafting video i thought you were a guy... Sorry
This book will be of use to the aspiring anyone in this economy! Thanks for doing this and i hope my 9.99$ helps somehow
I gave you my first 4 dollars in 1997 for a color photo-copied comic of a dog and a panda running amok. I figure I can't rightly STOP giving you money now...
While most of the information promises to be more useful within the context of an existing civilization than in trying to build one from scratch, I expect parts of it will be useful to the aspiring space colonist — and not necessarily just during the rough patch before he gets off the ground!
I like that this isn't just a book about being an artist but a book about living below your means to achieve your dreams. So glad I can support it!
Way to go, guys! Overwhelming support for deserving project!
Can't wait to see how ir progresses...
Dave
Good Luck Charlie! This sounds very exciting and I'm sorry I only heard about it now.
Wonderful idea ladies!!!!
Very excited! Can't wait!
woo! congrats on reaching the goal so quickly!! it's so EXCITING!
