Cregle (verb)
cre•gle \ˈkrā -gəl\
a: To write or draw in digital ink.
b: Processing external information through the left and right brain and then expressing the concepts in a creative digital form.
In education, writing is the vital link between reading and learning. Writing, and in particular handwriting, helps us remember, comprehend, and synthesize what we have learned. But when it comes to e-learning, handwriting has been all but non-existent because there hasn’t been a workable technology for handwriting on a computer or in any of the e-learning applications and digital contents that we have been provided. As a consequence, the spontaneity and intimacy of our learning experience have continued to be constrained by the keyboard of a laptop or the hunt-and-peck fingering of an iPad.
Cregle is changing all that. Our iPen and PenBook fills the handwriting gap by allowing students to use a digital pen to interact with their digital contents, the same way they’ve been working with pen and paper for their entire lives. We are here to create a unique platform for learning and sharing that combines the best of pen and paper, the Internet, and computers to provide a user experience that far exceeds the sum of its parts.
Kevin ,
@Manfred: keep in mind that you have to keep the pen in the same orientation while writing as you used for calibrating. It isn't very good but it should work though! Works on both my iPad2 and iPhone 3GS...
Nice try, but it won't work at all on my new iPad, the iPad 2 or even the iPhone 4 or 4S. The only reaction from the pen is the first calibration point in ibiPaint - then the stylus is dead ...
Any hints, what do do in this case?
And for the people who don't understand Dutch in short: I don't think it's that bad but the problems could be foreseen. I want to get rid of it because it's a disappointment for a student that doesn't sh*# money ;)
@Kevin np ,
Nayef, sorry about that. we've sent you RMA for replacement.
Received the iPen and it's not working fine. Cregle didn't send me a replacement not refund, even though I sent a video for them to show how their product is not working well with me.
Seller charged me additional 15$ for "fast" shipping via FedEx. Result: I received the iPen a month later than promised, seller reported 89$ price instead of 50$ I paid, and didn't pay FedEx for his additional services. As a result I should pay tax fees (~18 euro, because reported price is higher than 50$. If it would be exactly 50$ it would be free of charge) + 10 euros for FedEx services. 50$+15$+15$+23$+13$ = 116$ instead of 65$. I'm VERY angry!
DO NOT BUY an iPen from Cregle!!!! You will have buyers' remorse and could buy several other styluses for the price of the iPen. Feel completely ripped off.
@Kevin , bent u van België ?
I have been fooling around with my iPen since I received it, and I would agree that it is a pretty disappointing product. The design of the pen, the feel in your hand, and the experience of using it with goodnotes and ibisPaint are pretty poor. Better results sketching in SketchBook pro with a regular ct stylus. I hope the Lunatik stylus is better than this thing. I suppose this is a risk of betting on new technology, I just hope projects like this don't give Kickstarter a black eye. This is the first product I've received of 5 that I have backed.
I can't even get my ipen sold on ebay... I noticed btw that I am the only one who offers an ipen on ebay? Is it just me then who isn't really satisfied or is it because everyone only sells local so i can't see the auction?
Craple (verb)
crap.le/grap-!/
. To promise a new product that already exists and market it to get good money
. To not respond well anymore to customer issues once money received
3 Months later, about 15 emails later, having provided all information asked for, still waiting for my reimbursement after I cancelled my order based on the offer to step out ....
Waiting for your response guys!!!
will this work on my ipad 3?
I'm still waiting for my iPen. I wrote several times to fans@cregle.com, without any reply.
The receiver fits the fintie swivel case for my iPad 3rd generation.
Dear backers: If you have any questions, please contact us at fans@cregle.com As we mentioned in the update, it's difficult to track each of your requests from this message board. We believe most of your issues have been resolved except some rare cases. For example, we are still waiting for the int'l shipping fee from few backers. Please check your email. And we cannot deliver your iPen because you only made a $15 pledge.
We did mess up some of our backers' pledges. We do apologize for the mistakes.
Anybody home ?
I am still having issues with my ipen, there must be an issue with the pen itself, I would like to mail it back for a replacement.
No Greg , everybody's vanished ,
Pfffff
Pitty .....
Hello, is there anyone out there.
Tried the survey, but it says it can't find my __ incentive.
I payed another 21€ to Bpost
Just received an invoice from Fedex for 31 euros a good month after receiving the ipen... This is actually quite an expensive product (150$ in total vs 79$ initially anticipated, excluding shipping) which does not work very well and with which I'm struggling to get used to.
Are there any other app apart from Ghostwriter (very bad) and Goodnotes (better but not great) which support Ipen?
In the meantime, I reverted to my old Wacom Bambo (30 euros) (works well with apps where you can zoom in).
@Kenneth thnx , when i asked the question here i thought about it and turned it off, still sometimes the screen moves
@Lowyck Franky: Turn off multitouch gestures in the settings.
The same here. I'm from Germany and also still waiting for my iPen. Emails sent to Cregle but no replies.
International backer and still waiting for my iPen. Not had a shipping/tracking email or any other emails regarding delivery. Have sent emails but get no replies.
Whats going on then?
Wow, cregle seems to have disappeared? They need to address concerns before developers start pulling ipen support.
I received my iPen today , i use goodnotes but the problem is the palm rejection doesn't work
very well, if i move my hand a little bit , or the program stops or something else opens.
Any one having the same problem ?
I'm not complaining but just want to know how to calabrate the pen as currently no matter what program I use the pen is anything from 3 to 5 mm away from the actuall ink that results, you can't take notes with that variance :)
I don't know why everyone keeps complaining about the iPen its never gonna be pen and paper but its pretty dam good IMO. I am a med student and take a ton of notes and used to waste so much paper before the iPen now with GoodNotes all that is history. The calibration is a lil annoying till u learn how to do it but its much better that using ur finger or the other styli out there and GoodNotes is still in beta so it will get better.
What I would love is a pass-through port for charging my iPad while taking notes then this thing would be perfect.
Ho do I calibrate my ipen it appears each program I use either freezes or when they do work the lines etc are about 3 or more mm from the pen nib this is so frustrating its almost not worth using
My iPen got lost by USPS. No Answer from Cregle to various mails so far. I cannot recommend this and will file a complaint.
Have to agree with the other comments here. The iPen is a great concept, but unfortunately not very well executed. I cannot recommend this product to anyone.
I had to pay a UK customs surcharge which was annoying but not surprising really. Cregle could have got around it had they labeled differently though.
As to the iPen, it works pretty well. Not wacom perfectly, but pretty well. It's terrible (so far) in Ghostwriter though but passable in GoodNotes. It does seem to be a bit erratic though with it seeming to drift off calibration after some use. I'd like it to be supported in more apps of course, especially in Penultimate (my normal go-to app)
The hardwares fine. The packaging was great, the dock-dongle solid and the pen light plastic but reasonable for the cost. The pen feels VERY cheap compared to a wacom tablet pen, but it's not a Wacom pen!
I'd suggest that Cregle look into how to best support their app developers with the required UI to supply quick access to calibration. Say a single tap to bring up a calibration screen with a grid of (minimum) 9 calibration targets, from which we can tap four or more and be done with calibration and keep on working.
From what I've seen so far it's been up to the app developers to roll their own calibration options and how to access them. Cregle should come up with a 'best practice' solution.
In summary: It's a shame it's not perfect but it's usable and certainly a LOT better than trying to write small and legibly with a capacitive stylus or finger.
Tested with iPad, iPad 2 + iPad 3.
loved my iPen but now it no longer works. am waiting to hear back from Cregle about a replacement, however I am worried about them not replying like in instances below. The communication of this company has a lot to be desired....
Hopefully they reply back otherwise I will no longer recommend this product and I will have blown $80.
It was so cool to use my Ipen on a PDF contract to initial and sign and date, all very accurate and easy. So many complaints, but for me this is the best pen I've seen on the market and I'm hoping for some updates that will make it even better.
Today I finally received my pen (Holland). big disappointment, only Goodnotes, still in beta....
My open is not working and have contacted the company the the past weeks. No refund or replacement? What is going on. Please return my money or replace my pen!
@Michael Tantaro: Automatically turning off the multitouch gestures inside an app is not possible.
I really backed this because of the promised procreate support, I even finally bought the app in anticipation so really not happy that this has been dropped and we have no recourse regarding not getting what was promised.
I find that Good Notes is the best so far. Ghostwriter is a joke, but maybe in the future it will create a fix. Since I'm stuck with iPen, at least one app works like I was led to believe ALL apps would.
One thing I found not to my satisfaction is the point on the screen is couple of pixel away from the tip making the finer movement bit guesstimate... =__=
And one more thing. Mine arrived with the centre metal piece separate from the housing.
I think this is supposed to be replaceable but does it come in loose like mine in the packaging?
As the packaging itself was very clean I don't think mine came loose during the intransit?
Still didn't get my iPen , i'm from Belgium .....
Trapose just got approved. Outstanding app. Contact them to include your pen.
I've been using it on my iPad 3 and Goodnotes and it has been excellent. Goodnotes needs some improvements though...like automatically turning off 5 finger gestures and better palm protection. I do need to calibrate it 1 or 2 times a day though.
