Improvements through innovation
iPen 2 is more than just an upgrade to iPen 1. From a completely new, beautiful and sleek design, to new technology from the inside out, we’ve completely rethought what a stylus can be. We have developed two versions, one that supports iPad and one for Apple Displays (glass) and iMacs (Mid 2007 and newer) running either Mac OS or Windows.
Features
- Pressure Sensitive: iPen 2 recognizes up to 1024 levels of pressure. Our new mechanical design makes capturing your nuanced ideas effortless. iPen will work as a standard mouse with all the apps you already have and love. Pressure recognition is currently supported in Corel Painter and Autodesk Sketchbook in Mac OS and Windows and support for more application is on the way.
- Angle Agnostic: Because iPen 2 emits its signal from the very tiny pen tip, it gives you same accuracy no matter how you hold the stylus. No problem for lefties!
- Lightweight Inking: iPen 2 captures the comfort and feel of writing with a ballpoint pen. Compared with iPen 1, iPen 2 takes 75% less weight to generate inking. This new feature means a lot especially to speedy writers and will help when writing in quiet locations.
-
Precise Pen Tip: iPen 2 uses a precise tip enabling you to better see exactly where you are inking. This puts us ahead of competing products which use plastic discs which obstruct your view of the screen.
- Use in Airplane Mode: Because our technology doesn’t rely on Bluetooth, iPen can be used on flights when your iPad is in Airplane mode.
-
Palm Rejection: Focus on your work, not on deleting mistakes due to resting your hand on the screen. Put your palm down and sketch or draw naturally!

Universal stylus for iMac and Apple Displays
iMac model retails for $169
iPen 2 is a next generation stylus that enables you to write directly on your screen. It is designed for iMac and Apple Displays with glass panels. With our new technology, iPen 2 turns your non-touch Apple Display into a stylus friendly screen which is compatible with every application in Mac OS and Windows. Use your iPen 2 as your stylus or mouse as needed. The included stand will hold and charge your iPen 2 and receivers when not in use.

iPad model with smart iPad case
iPad model retails for $119
iPen 2 for iPad brings the dream of accurate and expressive writing and drawing to your iPad. Our Apple Smart Cover compatible case protects your iPad while doubling as the iPad receiver. It also holds and charges your iPen 2 when not in use. Compatible with iPad 2 and newer with support for both Lightning and 30-pin connections.iPad mini support planned once we meet our funding goal.

Limited iPad apps but with a better user experience
Due to iOS restriction, iPen 2 is not a universal stylus for iPad. We learned from iPen 1 that quality is more important than quantity; it’s the user experience that really matters. To create a better user experience, we are making a standalone calibration app so developers can focus on a few simple things like external accessory protocol. As iPen 2 users, you only have one calibration tool which sits on your screen. Because iPen 2 is angle agnostic, it produces the same accuracy performance in each supported app once it calibrated.
iPen 2 uses different chipsets from iPen 1. We have completed the new firmware and feature testing on the iPad. Our next move is to work with app developers on integration. We can’t provide a list of supported apps at this time, but here are our existing app developers for your reference. Our goal is to bring the best writing and drawing experience to the iPad with the best quality apps.If you are an interested developer, please email us at dev@cregle.com.
iPad 5 compatibility
iPad 5 is expected to hit the market this spring and we plan to have the iPen receiver case compatible with iPad 5. As we won’t know the details until then, we can only say that we will make a new case for it if the current Lighting compatible case will not fit. iPen 2 backers will receive further updates when we get our hands on a iPad 5.
The iPad mini model?

We believe people are going to love the iPad mini model of iPen 2, but we need additional funding to get this done. If we can reach the funding goal in a month, we will be able to kick off this mini project in time. So please help us to spread the word. With your support, we can really make this happen!
Technology

Different from iPen 1, iPen 2 uses invisible light and receivers to achieve a stylus experience that is angle agnostic. The receivers are tiny cameras that capture the invisible light from the pen tip and triangulate its exact location. With this new approach, you will be able to draw a straight line even at the bottom of the screen, as the signal does not decay.

iPen 2 needs you
iPen 2 is designed to write on every screen. With your help, we will be able to build this amazing stylus and continue our innovation. Your pledge will be used for:
- Mass production including tooling, testing, assembling and purchase of customized components.
- Optimize iPen driver with advanced features.
- With extra funding, we will be able to design different receivers for other screens.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Bringing a Kickstarter project into mass production has never been easier. Back when we were producing iPen 1, the delivery was postponed for 2 months due to the delay of getting Apple MFi approved. We learned our lesson and we planned very cautiously this time to get everything in order in preparation for submission for Apple MFi approval. As an iPen 2 backer, please understand the following risks and challenges:
Stylus Size and Battery
The current EVT unit is 12mm wide, and has a rechargeable battery with 6 hours continuous writing. Our goal is to cut the width to 10 mm and increase the battery life to 8 hours or more. This requires optimization of the design to meet our efficiency and usability requirements and offer you the best stylus experience available.
iMac Receiver for New iMac
The iMac Receiver is compatible with all iMac models since 2007. We want this receiver to fit all Apple Displays elegantly, which takes a lot of effort to design both externally and internally. The challenge is how to attach receiver to the new iMac (Late 2012) securely and blend in as it has a much thinner edge. We’re working on it now!
Delivery Schedule for “Made for iPad” Model
The iPad model has to go through Apple MFi program. With new stricter rules, we need to work with an Apple licensed OEM for mass production. The whole process will take four to six months.
The Pen Tip
We plan to use a black coating on the outside of pen tip in order to boost the performance of light signal inside the stylus. This might raise quality control issue during the mass production phase. Therefore, it’s possible we will have different pen tip color or shape for the retail unit. Quality control is our top priority during mass production.
Adobe Photoshop in Mac OS & Windows
As of Today, iPen 2 is not pressure sensitive in Photoshop. We need to request specific driver information from Adobe to make this work. We hope we can get their support soon.

-
Yes, iPen 2 has palm rejection. In iMac, its screen is not a touch screen, so iMac will only register the iPen 2 signal, not your finger. In iPad, we're asking app developer to turn off iPad multi gesture feature while connected to iPen. This will avoid the conflict between iPen palm rejection and iPad multi gesture feature.
