Western Edge is in full swing! Join us on the road...

Update #9 · Apr 16, 2013 · comment

After much research, planning and anticipation, we finally hit the road on March 25th and headed south, fast. Our goal for Western Edge is to undertake an epic road-trip to document 40 contemporary West Coast artists between Tijuana, Mexico and Vancouver, Canada and we are off to a good start. We left SF and spent our first night in Bakersfield where we visited abstract painter Nano Rubio. Then dove into a few days in Tijuana where we visited three artists. Back in san Diego we met Kelsey Brookes, whose interview we will publish next week (stay tuned). After San Diego, we went east into the desert of Anza Borrego and the Salton Sea where we happened upon some unexpected adventures. Nikki wrote a great Field Note about our time in the desert, complete with photos of the renowned Slab City prom night!

While we're on the road we'll be posting Field Notes on www.inthemake.com, so check back regularly. You can also travel with us by following along on Instagram (@inthemake) and on Facebook

In case you missed our first few Field Notes, here are direct links:

Gifts Are On The Way!

Update #7 · Jan 7, 2013 · comment

Hey Western Edge backers!

We hope everyone had happy holidays and a good start to the New Year. We've been busy planning our artist lineup for Western Edge, and can't wait to head out onto the road in the spring.

This week we're diving into printing and packing, and we're planning to ship everything out next week, though some gifts may take longer to ship depending on when we finish printing. If you haven't submitted your address by now, PLEASE do so as soon as possible. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to send us a message via Kickstarter or e-mail noe@inthemake.net.

Thanks for your patience and support! -Klea & Nikki

Thanks to you WESTERN EDGE is funded!

Update #6 · Dec 6, 2012 · comment

We are excited and relieved to tell you that the WESTERN EDGE fundraiser closed last night above and beyond our funding goal! We could not have done this without you— so, THANK YOU. The generous donations, kind words and enthusiastic encouragement we have received has been incredibly heartening and has helped us power through the last nerve-racking 30 days. This whole campaign process has been quite a wild ride— Klea and I barely like to ask for directions, so all this asking for support really had us squirming… but we knew this project was worth it!

Over the next week we will be contacting each of you to request mailing addresses and if you chose a custom artwork then we will be collecting your materials and putting you in touch with the artists. We will ship out the limited edition prints, notebooks, and totes in early January.

The WESTERN EDGE road trip will take place in the spring of 2013, so over the next few months we will be gathering recommendations, researching artists and planning our course and we will keep you updated on our progress. In the meantime we will continue to publish weekly studio visits with Bay Area artists on IN THE MAKE. In fact, we just today published a new studio visit with glass artist Cassandra Straubing. Have a look

Thank you all for your generosity and belief in this project.

WE MADE IT, But We're Still Going!!!

Update #5 · Dec 3, 2012 · 3 comments

First off, a big THANK YOU to everyone who has donated and supported us to this point; we reached $25,000 with time to spare!

We couldn’t have done it without all of YOU: our friends, family, readers, and fellow art lovers. We’re hoping to keep raising what funds we can in the last 53 hours to put aside for video production, which requires expensive equipment as well as hours and hours to edit.

Also, there are a ton of great rewards left for Western Edge, so if your friend has been eyeing that last Ehren Tool mug or a Jill Storthz woodblock print, let them know it’s not too late to donate!

We truly appreciate all of our backers and the overwhelming support that we have received. Help us take WESTERN EDGE one step further to better document current West Coast art practice! -Klea, Nikki, Dana & Noe
