"Those whom the gods want to destroy they first teach mathematics." Eugene O'Neill's early play "Fog" staged as a modern drama of disconnect.
We are performing "Fog" in New York City at HERE from July 28 to August 1. (http://here.org/shows/detail/264/) The show is loosely based on a play by Eugene O'Neill of the same name. We'd like to use the text to comment on the disconnects of our modern society. Each performance will include significant amounts of improvisation, as well as tight, dramatic storytelling. It's hard to describe the way we're combining dance and drama, you'd just have to see it for yourself.
INOKTOBER PRODUCTIONS is a New York / Berlin ensemble of theater artists whose distinctive performance style includes technical experiments with movement and language, and emotional storytelling. "Fog" will complete a trilogy of early Eugene O'Neill plays and a way of thinking about performance that started in Berlin in 2008. This last part of the trilogy will be the first show the group has developed and performed in New York City, and is a bridge across European and American performance ideas www.inoktober.com
The funding goal of $2500 is the absolute minimum we need to be able to present the show in its developmental stage at HERE for the Summer Sublet Series. The funds will go to cover expenses such as rehearsal space rental, which are considerable in New York City!. A $25 pledge buys about an hour of rehearsal time, so even small pledges make a big difference toward the goal!

MORE ON THE TEXT:
Four disoriented survivors of a shipwreck spend the night in a life boat as a dense fog settles over the freezing waters of the North Atlantic. A young mother, her child, a businessman, a poet. This staging of Eugene O'Neill's early one-act play, Fog (1914), is conceived as a modern drama of disconnect, part improvised dance and part mathematics. Meticulous and unrelenting in its use of formal elements, it aims to explore lostness as the central metaphor for contemporary life. O'Neill's stark and haunting story becomes, unexpectedly, an admission that joy lies on the other side of meaning and intellect.
