* I've been a gamer ever since 4th grade, 20-something years ago, and have written a few RPG articles.
* I'm also a programmer. I created and continue to update the game/fantasy map software programs "Hexographer" and "Dungeonographer" among numerous other projects.
Joe - thanks for the update. Am looking forward to the paper copies of the revised PDF.
Been really quite, hope everything is going well
Yep. I'm almost done putting the PDFs together. But they might not be available until tomorrow. Stock art is also in the middle of going out. I'll post an update in the next day.
Looks like the lists have all been moved to completed.
Lots and lots of excellent art here.
PDFs look go to...if we paid for extra sheets are the examples pages on the stock art available
If you goin gto label creatures, please just label the rarer ones. Everyone should know what a dragon is by the art work.
James: My plan is to post an update every 2 weeks, and we're a few days away based on the last one. (I don't want to spam everyone more often than that unless there's really substantive news.) Here's a preview:
-You can always go to the stock art and stand-ins minis pages on the Inkwell Ideas website to get the latest update of what art is complete vs. assigned vs. not yet assigned. Go to http://www.inkwellideas.com and look for the stock art and stand-ins links on the menu/sidebar.
-I have been laying out the sheets of minis. I'll likely include a preview of a couple in the update.
-For the "All" stock art backers, I have posted download links for the art that has been delivered to date\. Because they are getting all the art, an added perk for them is to get it early. (It is also feasible to give it to them early because they don't need to wait for all the art to choose a smaller number of pieces.)
anything new?
I see that $$ was pulled from my account this week. I look forward to having these to show off at my tables at Paizocon/Gencon/Strategicon summer/fall gaming conventions.
Those of you at the cons, stop by the Paizo PFS organized game areas and check them out. I am excited to NOT have to lug my regular minis on the airline.
Congratulations, Take the rest of the week to enjoy the success, but don't blow all the money on Strippers and Beer!
When you get back, (please do take some time to enjoy your succes) could you give us an update on how you plan to start giving access to the stock art images, and what service will you use, etc.
Congratulations all!
Well done funders!
I do plan to send them early, but most of the delay is getting the art completed. Maybe early May instead of late May.
Joe
might we get the PDFs sooner?
I expect to ship them in May.
Hadn't seen it asked before, and just was wondering..How long do you figure it willt ake before you can start shipping
Having worked with Jason Rainville, Eric Quigley, and Jeff Ward I am looking forward to this project.
Joe, please do include a list with the final package that states which artist created what monsters. (I guess you planned on this anyway, but just in case...)
@Joseph H: Yes, there are 16 plastic stands in the $25 pledge. Extras are $3 for 10 more stands.
Will there be in the package actual stands to allow the mini-cards to stand upright? If not, do you know where these can be found? It'll be cool to have sturdy platic cards with the monsters, but even better if we can actually use them instead of miniature figures. Also, the monsters will be printed on both sides, right?
Pledged $42, because it's a cool number. Consider it the $25 pledge, with the organizer box ($10), plus another sheet, preferably of humanoids ($3), plus four bucks for y'all.
@Joseph H: Thanks for the pledge! Yep, your revision was correct. But I'll get the details after pledging is complete through the survey I'll send a couple weeks later. We'll finish all the art and I'll have it all laid out so you'll know exactly which minis are on which sheets so you can pick the sheets you want with all the info you need.
After more reading, I changed my pledge to "PLEDGE $25 OR MORE" while still giving 50$. Together with my previous comment where I gave all the details, you should be able to sort it out.
Hello, first time I use kickstarter, I just pledged 50$. I wanted the Laminated Cardstock Minis (25$) with 2 extra sheets (6$) and the Organizer Box (10$), I've added 9$ for the shipping. Curiously, Kickstarter never asked me anything about it, I could just select "PLEDGE $50 OR MORE" which gives 50 Web-size monster images - which is nice but really I'm interested in the printed version which should be very handy in our Pathfinder sessions. Can you confirm I did it right and will be able to receive the Laminated Cardstock Minis or should I change something in kickstarter to receive the Cardstock *instead* of the web-size monster images? Of course, best if I can have both but I'm not sure if it's the case :D
@James: yep, there will definitely be guide lines.
are there guide lines to cut them or not?
Sorry Justin, not pre-cut. Can't do it economically. Although I will be doing my best to make it so they can be cut with as few cuts as possible. (Except where it limits the number of creatures on a sheet. I've been trying to lay out 5 dragons in each of 3 different sizes on a "dragon" sheet" and it takes some creativity. Each gets its own rectangular area of appropriate size, but when you're cutting them apart there is a good bit of dog-legging. As I said, I'll try to minimize that.)
Joe
Options sound good to me
Hi Joe, are the mini sheets pre-cut?
@Greg: generally even the leaders can double as extra melee combatants. Other than some extra piece of armor or ring, necklace etc. That said, yes, the plan is to have a sheet with extra/higher ratio of grunts. However, I'm still unsure if I can offer a sheet that is all just one common foe such as orcs with 3 leaders, 6 spellcasters, 12 bowmen and 36 sword-wielders. (I think I can fit about that many medium creatures on a sheet.) I'm just worried that will cause me to layout too many sheets. If I don't do that, there will be at least a few sheets where each sheet has 3 grunt creature types (orcs, hobgolblins and lizardmen for example) where each creature type will have 1 leader, 2 spellcasters, 4 bowmen, and 12 melee guys.
What do you think of those options?
If we buy extra sheets of the minis are the copies of the same sheet or can we have different figures add. Such as getting extra orc ad/or gnoll soldiers in a extra sheet but not the leader. After all only need so many leaders.
The PDF should still give you images that are 250-300 pixels for the medium creatures, so I think you should be OK. The web images are a different reward from the PDF.
Should be big enough for you, the web images are 600px on the longer side.
Cool project! I've signed up to get the PDF of all images. My plan is to use them for my own MapTool games. Will the resolution be high enough? I use 256 pixel circles for my monsters, but they are ultimately sized to a 50 pixel grid for Medium-sized creatures.
Congratulations!
Congrats on meeting the goal!
Why can't the next stretch-goal be humans and demi-humans? They're very commonly used, and often times the "bad guys" which are kind of like monsters. That restriction seems arbitrary and makes the whole project less useful.
Thanks Brian!! - If we end up close to some threshold I'll throw a few more bucks in too, but let's first see where we stand in 30 days :-)
Upped my ante...let there be minis for all! This I command! - Serpentor
$12 to go? Surely that last guy could have put a bit more in!
Sorry guys, but humans/demi-humans are not part of the vision of the project. (Except for making a few of the zombies/skeletons demi-human as well as human.) I'm not going to add them because every one of those cuts down the monster count. And as large a collection of monsters as possible is the vision for the project.
A follow up project is very possible though.
I'd like to see humans (and their ilk) too, and I agree that there's enough variety there for a follow-up project. I mean, just consider:
- Races
- Genders
- Type (Ranged, Melee, Unarmed, Wizard)
And you end up with dozens already.
Still, otoh, putting a limited selection in the poll probably doesn't hurt either. Maybe:
- Human Brigands (2 archers, 2 melee)
Make them not-too-shabby and they could be used as soldiers or adventurers too.
And they could then even serve as samples or core for a possible humanoid stock art & minis follow up project.
Re: Humans: I appreciate that Humans are going to be in the stand-ups, but I'd like to see humans in the monster art set as well.
Humans have been in just about every monster manual except for the SRD (and the SRD contains Elves, Dwarves and the like). Just focusing on 'monsters' means that many of the sorts of enemies that are in common use (Guards, Brigands, Thugs, etc) are excluded because they're not defined as 'monsters'. This seems unnecessarily limited, and also takes too narrow a definitionof what are valid monsters (what's in the SRD) and what aren't.
All I'm asking is for you to put Humans on the surveys as an option for some of the additional art (that looks like it'll get done), and if the backers want them, they'll vote for them. I know that I'd prefer humans (such as guards, brigands, thugs, etc) ahead of any of the other monster options that are presently on the surveys.
I'd love to see you do another project for Player Character stock art. I agree that having this one as just monsters is the best idea, but there is also a lot of other desire out there for adventurers.
@Joe: Oh, okay. Now I get it. Thanks for the clarification!
Awesome project, I'm happy to make this the first Kickstarter project I back.
@Kevin: One project to create the art, but two different sets of rewards: minis vs. stock art. The minis will have all the art in the stock art collection, but they will be for personal use only. (You can't put them in a product (paid or free) or on your public website.) The stock art lets you put them on websites and/or in products (paid or free). The minis will also include a number of animals and humans/demi-humans, but those come from other art sources, so they aren't part of the stock art collection.
If you want to do both (use them as minis and publish the monsters on your website or in a product) add the two pledge amounts together. For example, if you only want your favorite 50 monster images for publishing only on your website, that's the $50 pledge. If you also want the base set of 8 laminated cardstock minis, that's the $25 pledge. So you are at $75. If you also want ten extra stands add $3 for a total of $78. Then pledge that amount and select either the $50 reward or the $25 reward. During the kickstarter end-of-project-pledging, I'll catch that you want the $50 reward and $25 reward and extra stands.
(God I wish Kickstarter would let you pick multiple rewards.)
So the stock art collection won't be printable minis? Are there two projects going on here? I'm a bit confused.
@Joe. Thanks. Updated my pledge, hopefully I did all my math correctly.
@Justin: Humans are going to be covered separately for the monster stand-ins (miniatures) only. I have art for those already. But that won't be part of the stock art collection because the stock art is centered on monsters.
