A horror-comedy about a hapless TV crew and some killer wildlife.
What is The Last Buck Hunt?
A feature-horror comedy from Nick and Becky Sayers. Led by a wanna-be hunting prodigy, the hapless crew of an outdoors show hunt a legendary buck that's terrorized residents of the Pacific Northwest for years. The show's unassuming cameraman tries to hold the crew together as their outdoors adventure turns deadly.
A couple afternoons of daydreaming and lively conversations over dinner produced the concept of The Last Buck Hunt. We had recently returned to the Seattle area after 5 years in Southern California and we were desperate to get started on a second feature film. Not only did we want to apply all the lessons we had learned from our first feature, Break, but we also wanted to take advantage of the beautiful Pacific Northwest surroundings in a fun, energetic movie that also happened to be budget-friendly.
You can check out a more detailed origin story for The Last Buck Hunt here at our website: What is The Last Buck Hunt?
Wow! A feature film for $5,000? Not likely.
Yes and no! We will be putting our personal cash to work on this as well as using the Kickstarter funds. Kickstarter will help us push the production to the next level. To be honest, we are looking at a final cost of $10,000.
With these funds, we will be able to:
- Pay our talent! We want the funniest actors an indie-budget can buy. Otherwise, we'll be calling upon friends and family (not that this is anything new).
- Create awesome creature effects! We can't reveal what we are working on in the Indiestructible labs, but the money will help us bring a memorable, ferocious creature to life.
- Make our quirky world a reality through art direction! The money will go towards wardrobes, hunting gear, beautiful locations, and Kenny's trophy critters.
- Put together cool GoPro rigs! The GoPro is the coolest action camera out there. We want to join the fine group of extreme sports aficionados and create unique rigs that will test the limits of GoPro technology. Let's make filmmaking an extreme sport!
What experience do you have making films on the cheap?
We love to push the limits of budget and technology to make great movies. In short, yes we can make a feature film. We made a feature film with a large cast and locations in two different states. Here is the trailer to our first feature film Break:
We made Break for less than $2,000. Check out this post on some killer tips to make a feature this cheap: 5 Lessons from our First Feature Film. Below are some reviews for Break:
“It succeeds over most other horror films of its size.” Carl Manes, I Like Horror Movies
“From script to post production, the Sayers put blood, sweat and more blood into Break. The film is DIY filmmaking at its most raw." Jeff Atencio, the jaded viewer
"Often feeling like a modern Argento piece with masterful use of color to enhance the mood." Chris Hallock, All Things Horror
“Nick and Becky Sayers are talented people who…made an indie effort worth noticing & encouraging. I truly hope they get a chance to do some more projects and I'd love to see what else they come up with.” Jake Manders, The Cheap Bin
“Interesting, bold and quite surprising for a film of such low production cost.” Matt House, Chuck Norris Ate My Baby
In comparison to Break, The Last Buck Hunt's story is more focused, has less characters, and less locations. We really want to focus our skills on performance and shot design (camera work), so we can create memorable characters in hilarious situations. We are incredibly excited to get a cast of funny people together to sell The Last Buck Hunt's comedy. If you have time, please watch "Now and Zen" to get a glimpse into our comedic style and timing.
What do I get for donating? Besides a warm, fuzzy feeling in my heart.
Support Northwest Filmmakers!
Becky and I take pride in being Northwest Filmmakers. We believe that Seattle can become a filmmaking hub, looking beyond Twilight and Twin Peaks. The Northwest has so much to offer film and has an unmistakable personality that can't be found anywhere else in the world. We want to help the great filmmaking community in the Northwest flourish. Please help us do this by giving your support! Even if you aren't a proud NW'er, you have to admit that we have some great stories to tell and a beautiful place to tell them.
