THE STORY
Waiting in line at the DMV, rush hour traffic, a noisy neighbor—sometimes life drives you crazy. Makes you want to scream, to lash out, but we don’t. What if we lost that sense of self-control? What if the smallest annoyances drove us to unremitting rage and violence?
This is the world of IMPULSE CONTROL.
On March 22nd, 2014, a worldwide epidemic renders nearly half the human population unable to control anger. At the slightest provocation, ordinary citizens become violent, dangerous, savage forces who will attack and kill anything in their path.
When
Dean Johnson’s wife, Rain, is one of the millions affected by this
unprecedented condition, he locks his family in a fortified farmhouse and
conducts controlled experiments on Rain, desperately hoping to turn her
into the woman she once was.
Through a regiment of psychological
tests, strict dietary restrictions, forced meditation, intense physical
activity and other excruciating experiments, Dean attempts to treat his
afflicted wife. With the ever-present fear that any day he too may lose
control, it is a race against time to uncover a cure and fix his
long-neglected family.

THE VISION
IMPULSE CONTROL is a groundbreaking suspense thriller about a husband and father faced with a harrowing new reality... A family struggling to survive the outside world and each other in an utterly transformed time. It is an adventure that never loses touch with the human story beneath, unabashedly exploring one of the most fundamental human themes: in life you can’t control what happens to you; the only thing you can control is how you respond to it.
THE INSPIRATION
We grew up loving movies and have been infinitely fortunate in pursuing our dreams. But it has been a roller-coaster ride of successes, disappointments, unbelievable favors and debilitating set-backs. This is every person's story because it is about taking control of your destiny the only way you can: your attitude.
The independent film world is a competitive place, and the burden of funding that all-important first film often falls solely on the filmmaker. Once they have proven themselves, they can find financiers that believe in them. For our feature film, we are reaching out to everyone who believes in us and this project.
The 30,000 dollars from Kickstarter is an essential piece of our greater budget. No donation is too small. Assisting with $6 provides a crew member’s meal for a day of shooting. If five people donate $25, it rents our high-quality, low-cost Canon 7D camera for a day. A $1000 donation gains us access to our farmhouse location for an entire week! We are passionate about this project and will truly put these generous funds to good work.
THE TEAM
The film represents the collaborative
effort of many highly accomplished graduates of The USC School of
Cinematic Arts production program, including:
Matthew Breault (Writer/Director) - Winner of one of The USC School of Cinematic Arts' highest distinctions, the Fotokem Gold Award, with a short film ("Efrain") that played in nearly 30 film festivals around the world and won countless accolades.
Alex George Pickering (Writer/Co-Producer) - The writer of "Efrain", as well as another short film, "Fig", that was licensed by HBO, who has placed in almost every major screenwriting competition and fellowship including Nicholls, Austin, Sundance, Script Pipeline and many more.
Lea W. Dizon (Producer) - A former television writer and segment producer in the Phillipines who traveled to Los Angeles to pursue her USC career and gained production experience on over 20 locally and internationally renown films.
THE PLEDGE
We will make IMPULSE CONTROL a reality. We will push ourselves to the absolute brink of exhaustion, summon up all our passion and energy, and make the best film that we can possible produce. We will shoot for the stars: a theatrical release, an international festival run and more. There is no limit to how far we can go.
