Hot Docs Acceptance & Beyond

Update #12 · Mar 20, 2013 · 5 comments

Last week, we premiered “We Cause Scenes” at the South by Southwest Film Festival and had an absolutely incredible experience. After months of working on the film in a vacuum, we were finally able to hear the reactions from an actual live audience of over 400 people enjoying the movie.

Today we’re thrilled to announce that we will be screening the film as part of the Hot Docs International Documentary Festival in Toronto, Canada. We’re excited to start showing the film around the world in the coming months and can’t wait to share the movie with you online, on DVD, or in person (depending on your Kickstarter pledge!). All this will come soon, keep checking our Facebook, Twitter and Kickstarter pages for updates.

We’re going to Austin!

Update #11 · Jan 31, 2013 · 1 comment

We are thrilled to announce that the Improv Everywhere Film, titled “We Cause Scenes,” will be making its world premiere at the 2013 South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas! The SXSW Festival is an incredible 10 day festival that showcases a wide variety of films as well as a music and interactive festival. Because of this, we were always hoping to premiere the film at SXSW.

Book your flights now! While we can’t help out with travel and accommodations, we would absolutely love to see you at the festival. Please get in touch with us if you can attend and we might be able to provide a pass to one of our screenings. You can always reach us at: improveverywherefilm@gmail.com.

Now that we have a premiere confirmed, we’re working around the clock, even more than usual, to finish the film. We’ll have more updates in the coming weeks, but we wanted to share this awesome news with you as soon as we could because we wouldn’t have been able to make it this far without your support!

For more about the festival, please visit: http://sxsw.com/film

Winding Down the Year

Update #10 · Dec 17, 2012 · 2 comments

As 2012 comes to an end, we wanted to keep you up to date with some of the happenings over here at Improv Everywhere Film headquarters. We’ve been working hard and are pleased to announce that we’ve successfully completed our first rough cut! After such a crazy year working on the project, it’s so exciting to be able to sit down for an hour and a half and watch a version of the movie. That being said, we have a lot of work ahead of us. Between now and the time that we premiere the film, we must continue to work on the edit of the film, add in an awesome score from composers, color correct the film, and much more as we initially described on our Kickstarter page.

We’re very excited to share that we are about to embark on the adventure of submitting our work-in-progress to various film festivals around the country! We’re really excited to show this film to as many people as possible and hope to premiere the project at one of these venues in after we complete the final cut.

That’s all for now, but it’s really exciting to say that we’re in the “home stretch” of post-production. Everyday when we come together to work on the film, we are so thrilled to be able to see it live in a cohesive timeline. In just a few short months, we’ll finally be able to share what we’ve been working on all this time in the form of a digital download, DVD, or screening (depending on your specific pledge)!

Happy Holidays and have an awesome New Year.

70 Days Until A Rough Cut

Update #9 · Aug 22, 2012 · 2 comments

Hello Kickstarter!

The summer’s winding down and as we head into the fall we wanted to update you all on the status of post-production. When we last updated you we had only amassed 4 terabytes of media for the film. Well, after spending months collecting archival footage and documenting a few present day pranks, we now have about 15 terabytes - that’s more than 750 hours of footage!

Fortunately, we’ve managed to stay on schedule despite this enormous influx of media. A rough cut should be completed in about 70 days and we're thrilled with how things look so far.

As we look toward the final stages of post-production, we’re eager to lock our composer, colorist and sound mixer. While we’ve been in touch with a number of interested companies, we’ve gotten multiple emails from backers expressing interest in donating their services to the project. Any services donated to the project allow us to reallocate our money in other useful areas.

Additionally, we wanted to let any New York-based students know we are looking for a few Production Assistants for the Fall semester. If you have 2-3 days a week you could devote to the project, please send us an email with “Production Assistant” in the subject line.

If your are interested in coming aboard or simply want to touch base, please feel free to reach us at: improveverywherefilm@gmail.com.

Full Speed Ahead!

Update #8 · May 1, 2012 · comment

Hello Everyone,

Great news: we have officially begun editing full time with our new post-production team. Over the last 6 weeks, we’ve been working hard collecting all the videos and photos that have been taken at Improv Everywhere events since its inception in 2002. During those past ten years, hundreds of videographers and photographers have documented Improv Everywhere events and we’re doing our best to track down as much material as possible. (If you have any footage you’d be willing to send to us, please email improveverywherefilm@gmail.com).

In addition to what others have shot, we’ve secured access to all the Improv Everywhere archival video (over 100 Mini DV tapes...remember those!) and we’re planning to digitize everything in the highest quality possible. We’re looking forward to discovering new stories and great behind-the-scenes footage as we continue to look for patterns in the evolution of Improv Everywhere.

The ongoing support of this project has been amazing. We’ve been contacted by over 20 freelance professionals who have offered the film everything from composing to translation services. We’ve been in touch with all of them and will be sure to use their skills as best as possible. What’s more, we’ve been offered discounted equipment and production services to help document an Improv Everywhere mission for the film from start to finish. Finally, we’ve had some generous donations via PayPal and raised an additional $650. If you missed the campaign and would also like to support us, check it out here: http://improveverywhere.com/film/.

Please make sure to keep up to date with us on Facebook and Twitter where we will continue to post more information about the film! It’s the best place to see clips and teasers before the movie comes out!
