Update #9: Week #6

Posted on August 2, 2010

Last week I took 'Onomasticon' on the road to share with libraries and museums. It was a fantastic trip and I an grateful to all the people who took time out of their schedules to meet with me.

On Tuesday I headed out of Chicago for Cleveland. I had a great drive and it was nice to be on the road again seeing the midwest roll past me. I spent the night in Cleveland and on Wednesday I presented the newly embossed book case with maquettes to the Cleveland Institute of Art Gund Library. After a great conversation and exchanging some ideas about the final form of the box I thanked my host and headed for the Akron Art Museum.

In Akron I presented 'Onomasticon' for the second time in 6 hours. Currently the Akron Art Museum is exhibiting Andrew Moore's 'Detroit Disassembled', a fantastic show. After another great meeting and a brief tour of the museum I loaded up my car and headed for Columbus.

I arrived in Columbus on a beautiful evening and managed to find time to walk around downtown a bit. The next day I headed over to the Columbus Museum of Art. The museum is under construction but they currently have a fun show titled "Fur, fins & Feathers" which looks at the place animals have in our lives. There is a lot going on there right now and the future looks great for the Columbus Museum of Art.

Farewell Columbus...hello Cincinnati! I didn't manage to eat any Chili or catch a glimpse of Terrell Owens so I went for a run along an industrial corridor near the Bengals stadium and spotted some spots that I returned to photograph the next morning.

On Friday I visited, toured and thoroughly enjoyed the DAAP Library at the University of Cincinnati. Their programming and reorganization plans are exciting.

And thus concluded my tour through Ohio sharing 'Onomasticon', photographing and experiencing another genuine mid-west road trip.

Overall the project is moving forward well. I hope you'll consider backing the project and helping with the production of these wonderful book cases.

Sincerely,
-Ian Whitmore
