OFFICIAL SELECTION SUNDANCE 2012- The feature film explores what it means to be creative in the face of tragedy.
UPDATE
We've gotten several requests for Blu-Rays so we decided to make them available in new $40 and $75 reward categories. Anyone who already backed the project can increase their pledge and select those categories, and anyone who pledged $100 or more will be given the option between DVD and Blu-Ray when we send rewards out.
We've also posted the opening scene from the film below, which will be online until the project ends next Monday, June 11th at noon. If we don't meet our goal by then, all funding will be canceled. Thank you for your generous support!

Dear
friends,
Destin here, writer/director of “I Am Not A Hipster,” a feature film
revolving around San Diego’s indie music and art scene, made by the wonderful
people there. It’s my first
feature and I couldn’t be more proud, solely because of the incredible community of friends
who gave their time and talents to make it happen, including the art of Hess, and the music of Joel P West, Cuckoo Chaos,
The Donkeys, Jamuel Saxon, Black Mamba, John Meeks, Pebaluna, and The Tree Ring.
In
January we were lucky enough to premiere our little film at the 2012
Sundance Film Festival (which I still
haven’t recovered from), and now we’re taking it to a bunch of other fests
across the country (including Cleveland, Nashville, Newport Beach,
Philadelphia, and Seattle). But
the final step is to get the film out to as many people as possible.
We’re
using Kickstarter to raise funds and support to release the film in the same
spirit it was made…on our own.
With your help, we’ll be able to take the final steps needed (final sound mix,
dubs, insurance) to get the film out through theaters and digital outlets like Netflix and Hulu.

As
a thank you for your contribution, we’ve put together some gifts for
you, from
an early DVD and download of the soundtrack to a private screening and
music
performance in your home. And anyone who contributes a dollar or more
will get access to some exclusive things we'll be posting on our blog.
Sincere
thanks,
Destin
ABOUT THE FILM
Set in a wannabe-cool, art-and-indie rock scene, I AM NOT A HIPSTER is true to its title. Not tragically hip but, rather, emotionally rich, this portrait of a man in pain celebrates the healing power of family love. It aims straight for the heart and hits it. – Sundance Film Festival
The film features musical performances of songs that were written for the film by Joel P West and performed by actor Dominic Bogart. The songs were recorded under the name CANINES and released as a full record in November 2011:
HESS

Clarke's artwork that appears in the film is made by Hess, who will be creating custom felt portraits for anyone who pledges $1000 (donation is shared with her). Her artwork is also featured on the T-shirt.
DISTRIBUTION PLAN
We are going to release I AM NOT A HIPSTER independently in select theaters, Cable VOD and on digital outlets like Netflix and iTunes. Theaters require that we invest in local promotion, and the digital/cable outlets require us to get the film insured, transfer it to specific video and audio formats, and produce DVDs and Blu-Rays. We've budgeted our Kickstarter goal to cover these costs, and any additional funds will go toward marketing and promotion of the film.
STAY IN TOUCH
You can stay in the loop with screenings, press, and other news on Facebook and Twitter, and email any questions to info@iamnotahipster.com.
Whether you are interested in backing this project or not, rating the film on IMDB and adding it to your queue on Netflix also helps build trust for those who can help us release it independently.
I AM NOT A HIPSTER will play at the San Diego Museum of Photographic Arts, Little Rock Film Festival, and Seattle International Film Festival. (more to be announced soon).

We’ve set a goal to raise $27,500 to release our film and have reward packages for different levels of support. If enough people contribute to the project to meet our financial goal by June 11th, we’ll receive the collective funding and send out the rewards. If not, all pledges will be canceled and rewards will not be sent out. If you’d like to contribute, find the green “Back This Project” button on the top right of this page and you’ll be walked through the process of pledging, selecting your rewards, and setting up a simple profile where you will receive updates about the project and be able to give us information like shipping address and t-shirt size when the time comes. More help and information about the website can be found at www.kickstarter.com/help

Yes! If you have already donated and are signed in to your account, then instead of a green “Back This Project” button on our page, there should be a blue “Manage Your Donation” button. Click on that, and you can enter a new amount and choose a new incentive.
