Nadiah Hamzah is a Malaysian filmmaker and a Masters of Fine Arts (Film & TV) candidate at the prestigious Tisch School of the Arts, New York University. She has written and directed more than four short films; and worked as a cinematographer on 10 others.
In 2010, she was awarded a competitive department fellowship, and interned on the upcoming HBO documentary If God Is Willing and Da Creek Don’t Rise directed by Oscar-nominated director Spike Lee. Her last short film, Sub Rosa (HD/Color/2009) is also currently traveling the festival circuit.
Hujan Panas (Afternoon Rain), her MFA thesis film, revolves around a Malaysian man who finds himself yearning for the comforts of all things familiar when he tries to live the American Dream in New York City, and is currently in pre-production.
She lives in Brooklyn, New York but anticipates a return to Malaysia to tell more stories of love, life and humanity, especially those that transcend cultural barriers and celebrate the racial diversity of her country.
Hi Persis and Murg and every backer here!
I've just replied your email Ms Shanker :)
I guess it's my bad that I did not make it clear that I've been holding off the DVD distribution to make way for the film to travel the festival circuit in the next few months - reason being, I would not have the control over any possible uploads on the internet that might jeopardize my chances of getting into any festivals.
However, I do plan to have the DVDs sent out before the year ends, and to cut mailing cost, send them all out together along with the other rewards promised on this site :) I am really thankful for everyone who has contributed and this has certainly restored my faith in knowing that there are kind and generous souls who are willing to see through someone's dream materialize :) Thank you!!!
Murg,
I just sent Nadiah an email and hoping she responds. Since May 2, I have not received a response from my previous comment nor received anything in the mail. I'm hoping someone from this production would respond soon so we backers do not wonder where our investment went to. I'm an established producer/director of television and short films myself in Singapore and I have always been responsible enough to send copies of my works to the people involved who have helped me in kind or money. So Ms Nadiah, here's hoping you don't forget your backers in the midst of production work.
You see, Nadiah... I don't open the email I registered KICKSTARTER with, so I completely forgot all about this. Thus, like Persis Shanker, I missed the screening in KL. Would appreciate if you could send me a copy of the DVD, because I was well impressed with the 'pitch' cut (or whatever it is called in the film industry). Congratulations on getting the monies needed, and here's my hope that you achieve greater heights.
heya - i was one of the backers but haven't received my DVD or got the chance to see the movie. Any chance we non-KL'ers or NY'ers can see this flick?
