Do you ever wonder what an artist was thinking? Do you want to know how something works? Start with the basics, Behind the 4 Elements.
Have you been to an art museum lately? Did you stand behind the requisite velvet rope or mark on the floor as not to disturb the personal bubble of the artwork on the wall?
I like to pop those bubbles and let you in front of the rope, so I create paintings that do something. My interactive paintings started with a heated canvas, so blind patrons could actually touch the painting and feel the differences in color through the changes in temperature. Wicked cool right?! Shortly after that, I created a second piece featuring water rolling out of the front of the canvas. I think this is wicked cool too, but also thought that it could be outdone.
The idea for Behind the 4 Elements was born. I want to create unique paintings that will inform the patron about the historic four elements (fire, wind, water, and earth). I also want to provide some insights into the making of and the function of an interactive piece of artwork.
I decided to up the scale so each of the four elements will be on its own 4' x 4' panel. I am also upping the scale of showing the piece by making it an entry into this year's Artprize contest.
Your participation in this process makes you wicked cool too, and it helps not only in construction but the delivery of a large scale piece from central Illinois up to Grand Rapids, Michigan.
