Update #20: UCLA 1st Year MFA: Work-In-Progress Screenings

Posted on June 5, 2011

Summer is officially one week away, which means my first year in film school is almost over.  There are many things going on. One of those many things, "Lwa" is now known as "Te Tremble."

If you're in Los Angeles you're welcome to come to the 1st Year MFA Work-In-Progress screenings.  It's a two day event for the 1st year MFA students, there are 21 of us.  We critique each other and are critiqued. The best part is seeing your film in a proper theater.  It's kinda mind blowing.

"Te Tremble" will be showing at Bridges Theatre at Melnitz Hall on UCLA's campus.  It's scheduled for 2:20pm. We may run a bit early so getting there by 2pm may be a good idea.

It's been a nerve-racking few months. Finding the story again, in the editing process, after writing it and filming it can be a challenge. It's also been rewarding to see my intentions as a filmmaker hit the mark or miss it completely.  I've received amazingly honest and productive critique not just from my professors but my peers. I'm excited to share the film with an audience who knows very little about the film.  Here's to another round of critique.

Thanks again for supporting "Te Tremble." Some of you have received some of your rewards.  I'll be sending out the reminder in a few weeks.

Thank you.

-daye.

Dehanza Rogers is a Panamanian-American filmmaker, of both narratives and documentaries, born and raised in Georgia. The Southerner in her lived and breathed Georgia red clay and believes that morning breakfast should always involve a biscuit. The Panamanian, started eating sugar cane at the ripe old age of two, loves cornmeal porridge and believes that dinner should always involve rice & peas.

Dehanza recently completed her B.A. in Anthropology at California State University, Northridge, with an interest in refugee youth culture, youth media and folklore. She is currently pursuing a MFA degree in Film and Television Directing and an MFA in Cinematography at UCLA.

Her films explore identity, self-defined and transnational. What does it mean to be American or other than American or collectively Other-American? As a child of both Panamanian and American parents, she strives for a middle ground that celebrates the best of these cultures, as well as informs her responsibilities to the world.
