Update #3: Stirring, Baking, Rising
Hi all!
I'm incredibly overdue for a status update on this project - thanks one and all for not breaking my knees in the last few weeks as I've fallen behind schedule on the fabrication stage for this batch of tapes.
Batch? Didn't I order two tapes? [That's you, incredulous.]
It's not a typo! [That's me, cheeky.]
I'm stoked to continue to pile it on and include a special very very limited split between Milwaukee producer Nathaniel Zabriskie aka Nomad Palace and San Francisco rapper-turned-producer-he'll-hate-me-for-saying-that Mike Sheahan aka Sm^th. Two mixtape-style EPs from the both of them in the grand tradition of Madlib et al - a tradition I'm clearly unfamiliar with by the way, but it seems customary for hip hop producers to in part shop their beats to MCs by making rapid-fire mixtapes of beats, moving from idea to idea with a minimum of fuss. I'm familiar with the tradition in its appropriation as an artform by the likes of Madlib (his monthly series this year is killing me) or Dilla, or even Prefuse - the Extinguished Outtakes EP is a great example, I think.
I'm making one copy for Mike, one for Nate, one for myself, and one for each of you and that's it. The EPs will probably see release as a free download later this year on the netlabel arm of Wolf Interval, but for the time being I hope this will be a nice Christmas gift and a thank you for your continued patience as I work on making these tapes great.
The Made Of Oak / Sleeps In Oysters split is looking and sounding great, I've made quite a chunk in the stack of tapes I need to assemble and dub. For fun, here's a step-by-step photo diary of the process I go through on those:

That just leaves finalization of artwork for the Tom Hamill and I'm waiting for a few supplies to arrive for the bonus Nomad Palace / Sm^th split to start putting those together as well.
It's my sincere hope to have these to you for the holidays, thanks again for your patience - I'll be following up with more news soon!

Update #2: We did it!
Wow, I'm totally overwhelmed by the rush of support in the final hours of the project! Thank you so much for contributing!
A want to take a short moment to dwell on what a great thing this really is:
Your support doesn't just mean that we can actually afford to produce these tapes, it also lets us do our small part in supporting the community we love so much by giving tapes to our artists to sell at their shows and giving a small number of tapes to tiny distributors like Experimedia and Home Normal to help support what they do as well. At this stage in the game we can focus on spreading the love for this music, rather than shifting units of a product just to make ends meet.
It means so much to have your support - so thanks again!
I'm putting together download codes for the Tom Hamill c60 this morning and those will be arriving in your inboxes shortly! Sleeps in Oysters is patiently sewing together the final pieces of their bonus track(s?) so I'll send download codes for those along as soon as we have that finalized.
We're ready to launch into production on these tapes! I'll be documenting the process through these kickstarter updates and sharing our progress as we go.
Best,
Erik

Update #1: Almost There!
Hi everyone!
Thank you so much for your support so far! We're super close to meeting our goal, but there are only about 12 hours left to raise those final dollars. If you know anyone who you think may be interested in some awesome music, please do pass the word on!
Super handy link to the project page:

Unfortunately kickstarter projects are an all-or-nothing affair, so if we don't reach funding we'll need to regroup and explore our options. It doesn't necessarily mean the project won't happen, but kickstarter won't charge you for your pledge and we'll need to start from scratch.
We can do it! Thanks again for your support so far!
Best,
Erik
