THE INSPIRATION:
My newest novel idea was inspired by people just like you...in fact, it was inspired by a variety of people from all walks of life who have one thing in common – money.
Even the smallest of donations are appreciated to assist in launching this project as well as showing interest in it. I am grateful for everyone and every amount backed.
The concept of this novel, appropriately titled $1 AND $100, came to me when I considered the traveling journey of a dollar bill and a one hundred dollar bill…all of the people’s hands, generational eras, and places that they pass through, and yet each of us relates differently to them when they’re in our hands. I thought it would be a neat idea for a novel to follow the bills, making them the protagonists.
With all the talk lately of a failing economy and the tactile ways of overcoming it, for this project I am choosing to look at our emotional relationship with money. The novel, of which two chapters have been written and can be read from my website (see below), opens in the mid-1970s with a young, widowed waitress who receives a $100 bill as a tip. Her son, Jack, receives a brand new, crisp $1 bill as change for candy he buys. His curiosity over the new bill, especially when he questions the meaning of “In God We Trust,” prompts him to write his name on the back of both his bill and his mother’s $100 bill. From there the bills are sent out into the world as the novel progresses and tracks them through different people, times, and places.
THE FIRST TWO CHAPTERS - ONLY THE BEGINNING
As mentioned above, the first two chapters of $1 AND $100 are written and available as a PDF download from my website www.HeatherHummel.net. I have the other chapters outlined and ready to write. What would be great would be the financial assistance of the KickStarter family who can help me see this project come to fruition. Between the writing, editing, layout design, cover creation, website development, and final publishing, there is quite a bit of overhead. For your assistance, I am grateful.
SOCIALLY ADEPT
The image of the old fashioned novelist who holes himself up in a room with a mug of Joe and cigarettes as he frantically types away on a typewriter is long gone. Today’s author is much more socially adept (we have to be!). As such, I’m very active in social media. I’m great at keeping people posted on the progress of my projects, and the idea of $1 AND $100 is already being well received.
ABOUT THE VIDEO
The video above goes into detail about the many characters who inspired the idea for this novel. From surfers to retirees to New York City construction workers to business men playing golf to high school teachers to the unassuming millionaire and many others; they all contributed to the concept of $1 AND $100.
