The New York Times City Room blog ran an excellent piece on our project. With 6 days to go, we still need to raise more than $1,000 to meet our goal, so please send the article to friends who might be interested. The piece was reprinted on page A15 of yesterday’s paper in case you like your news on dead trees. The reporter spent most of the afternoon Saturday interviewing FIGMENT visitors, then came back on Sunday after we got the big board working.
We were also featured on the GMD Studios Kickstarter Spotlight, run by a design studio in Florida, and they backed us with a $100 pledge, and Mashable Video did a piece on us.
If you are in the New York area, stop by our weekly Tech Tuesday open house tonight at 7pm. You can play a game of brain pong, check out our 3D printer and mill, do some soldering and visit the bees. Weather permitting, we may set up the big LED board on the roof so you can play the full version of the game. Our hackerspace is located in Manhattan on 137 West 14th St between 6th Ave and 7th Ave.
FIGMENT players used 9×14 pixels of the display. Unfortunately we didn’t get the relays running in time. Our goal for Maker Faire in September is to have all the 192 pixels working, integrate electromechanical relays, and have a second game running. We will either do two-player pong or a tug-of-war game where two players compete against each other to see who can concentrate hardest.
