About this project
If you, collectively, fund this story with $330, I'll release it for free, in perpetuity, on the internet. I've done this before, as you can see at my internet library. If the funding succeeds, Shrimp comes out under a Creative Commons share-alike/attribution license. That means that you can download it, share it, host it, give it to all your friends or use it as the basis of a rock opera... as long as you keep to the terms.
With the deal thus understood, the question really is: Do you want to read this story? I could assure you that, yes, you do, this is a gem of literature that casts a small but clear light on one minor aspect of modern post-millennium life. But I think it's more reasonable to suggest that you just read a few similar stories.
Shrimp is about ordinary, middle-class Americans who happen to be studying Japanese martial arts in a strip-mall dojo. It's also about fear and divorces and relaxation, but the hinge that joins it all is the pursuit of bushido. If you download Two Things She Does With Her Body, you can get a good sense of how I describe the fighting arts and the people who do them. Regret, With Math shows how I use jujitsu as an element for telling stories about people.
Take a look, read some stories, and decide how much you're willing to pay for more. It's really that simple.
-G.
P.S. Oh, and here's the patch you can get by pledging. I'll get other art previews up when I can.
