Kickstarter is a funding platform for creative projects.
At this very second, thousands of people are checking out projects
on Kickstarter. They're rallying around their friends' ideas, backing projects
from people they've long admired, and discovering things that make
them laugh and smile.
Every project is independently crafted, put to all-or-nothing funding,
and supported by friends, fans, and the public in return for rewards.
-
Independently crafted.
The filmmakers, musicians, artists, and designers you see on Kickstarter have complete control and responsibility over their own projects.
They spend weeks building their own project pages, shooting their own videos, and brainstorming
what to offer as rewards.
Rewards are things like a copy of what’s being made, a limited edition, or a custom experience related to the project. This isn’t Best Buy – rewards aren’t shrink-wrapped and ready to ship. Once the project is funded, the journey to bring them to life begins.
-
All-or-nothing funding.
Every project creator sets their project's funding goal and deadline.
If the project succeeds
in reaching its funding goal
all backers’ credit cards are charged
when
time expires.
If the project falls short no one is charged.
Since our launch in April 2009, more than 20,000 creative projects
have been successfully funded by awesome people from around the world.
But Kickstarter is about much more than money...
-
The big picture.
People come to Kickstarter to build community around their projects. It’s inspiring to be supported by people you know, and amazing to connect with strangers who are discovering your ideas for the first time.
The feedback, press, and love that can come with
a Kickstarter project are just as valuable as the money raised. Ask anyone who’s done it before. There’s nothing like it.
I don't know if it's okay to advertise here, but if anyone is interested I'm going to take a crack at running a Nain game online. It can be found here: http://www.rpol.net/game.cgi…
You'll need an RPOL account, but it's free and easy to sign up.
Looking at the records, exactly two people have either reduced or canceled their pledges, so it doesn't seem like an overwhelming trend.

I'm asking myself the same question. My guess? Some people may h ave initially over-pledged and, seeing that it's now safely over margin, are reducing their pledges. One guy cold canceled -- possibly for the same reason. Or maybe he had some kind of financial crisis and decided to pay for the baby's throat medicine instead of NAIN. Impossible to tell without asking him, and I'm not going to pry.

Why is this losing money?!
Eggdropsoap has the right of it. When I have enough for another book, I'll do another book.

I learn about the project by an email called "Update: 'Reign' Enchiridion by Arc Dream Publishing" received today.
@Carl: Reign supplements have so far been collected in softcover+PDF after a year's worth of material is ransomed, so my (completely unauthoritative) bet is that eventually there will be a softcover of Nain + whatever other settings get ransomed.
(Just writing that, I'm salivating at the idea of a nice print book of three or four mini-settings for Reign. I hope my bet is on the money.)
So, is there anyway to get a physical copy of the book itself?
I can understand a prohibition on jacking the price UP midway through, but... Hm.
-G.
Presumably so one can't just change their mind and drop the goal on a whim. *shrug*
I just got sent money off-system by someone who can't use Kickstarter, so consider the goal $15 less. Apparently I can't reduce it while it's in process...
-G.
Fantastic! I really hope you make the goal. Funding art feels good.
