Update #21: I Love New York...
Hello friends,
Wanted to let you know that the New York - Shared Film Festival screening of PERSON OF INTEREST went off incredibly well, and that the VODO release is in full swing, and actually taxing the VODO servers as I write this.
The screening was well attended by conference goers, and indie film fans alike. We had a fantastic Q&A moderated by Brian Newman, who was very complimentary of the film, and our efforts with it.
The highlight of the evening was a conversation with a Vietnam veteran who had come out to watch the film. Ultimately, we care about all audience reaction to the film, but when vets come out and take the time to voice their views on the film, and share their stories, it's just that much more humbling and poignant. This particular veteran appreciated the way the film rides the middle line, allows for one to breath emotionally between moments, and leaves room for them to interpret the film, its meaning and its end, for themselves.
J., and I are very grateful that veterans, especially, have been able to recognize what we've tried to capture in Person of Interest.
As the screening rolled on, our friends at VODO were working behind the scenes, and very late, as they are all on Euro time, to release the film via P2P file sharing networks. The launch went off without a hitch, with the film being downloaded over 6,500 times in the first 24 hours.
Right now we are closing in on 10,000 downloads, having just scratched the tip of the iceberg in regard to the expanse of file sharing networks cross the web. So we are very excited, to say the least.
With the launch on VODO, we've also announced our next narrative film LOVE AND A CREDIT CARD, written again by J. Reuben Appelman, and directed by myself. We're testing the waters of the P2P relationship to fund this next endeavor, hoping that fans of PERSON OF INTEREST might like to get involved in the next picture, even on a very small financial sponsorship level, to create an essentially open and accessible 'studio' powered by the people.

Thank you so much for all your support in this endeavor. It's only the beginning!
Very gratefully,
Gregory

Update #19: New York this Weekend! And the PERSON OF INTEREST P2P Edition!
Hello my Friends,
What a whirlwind these past few months have been. Traveling with PERSON OF INTEREST, locking up JENS PULVER | DRIVEN, raising kids! How was your summer?
I wanted to update you on where we're at, and where we're going with the OFF THE GRID TOUR. Since Annapolis, and Los Angeles we have continued to reach out to venues, organizations and individuals here in the Northwest, and across the country to line up additional screenings. We should see some dates coming into play in the very near future. Sadly, I must report our Tampa, Florida screening has fallen through, but we're looking into what other options might be available there.
Up next is New York this Saturday, October 2nd, as part of the Shared Film Festival during the 2010 Open Video Conference, and curated by our partners at VODO (more on them below). The screening is at 7pm at the Fashion Institute of Technology, and did I mention it's FREE! So if you're in the city, come out and join J. Reuben and I for what should be a very exciting screening. Details on the event can be found here: http://www.openvideoconference.org/shared-film-festival/
On Wednesday, November 3rd, we'll be back in Boise for a screening at the Boise Contemporary Theater. More details on that event to come.
Ok, VODO, and the Peer 2 Peer Edition of PERSON OF INTEREST. I first became aware of VODO in 2009, and was immediately attracted to their most unusual idea of embracing peer to peer file sharing, and 'piracy' as opposed to trying to fight it. Essentially what they had done was successfully partner with file sharing sites, getting them to promote VODO releases via their networks to drive downloads, (many times in the hundreds of thousands -if not millions), and then worked to creatively connect with that downloading audience on the back end to drive monetary 'contributions' back to the filmmaker. Sort of a digital tip jar idea.
I thought that PERSON OF INTEREST, with its underground aesthetic, and somewhat provocative storyline could do well in this arena, so I pursued Jamie (the ring leader of Vodo) for the past year. This summer he, and his Vodo partners reviewed the film, loved it, and decided to make it the next VODO release. (they just released the latest YES MEN movie)
So for the past 2 months we've been working behind the scenes with VODO to prepare the launch of the PERSON OF INTEREST Peer 2 Peer Edition. We're excited to announce that this launch, along with next version of http://http://vodo.net/ will release this Saturday, October 2nd in conjunction with our NYC screening.
It should be an exciting experiment! And, of course we will be keeping you posted.
Lastly, the comic book reward is still in production, and will be available soon. If there are any other outstanding rewards, be assured it is on our radar, and we will get them to you asap.
Thank you for all your support,
Gregory
