Hello DRIVEN Community,
With so much happening this past week I felt compelled to update you on current happenings with the film, Jens, and myself.
First off, I just spent a very productive weekend reviewing, and discussing the first 3 hour rough assembly of DRIVEN with my writer, and collaborator J. Reuben Appelman.
The key word is 'rough', but we are glad to see the spine, themes, and tone of the film emerge from the nearly 50 hours of footage we have now culled down to this 3.
The road ahead will not be easy, but we are very excited as to where it's leading.
I liken the process of editing a film, especially documentary film, to sculpting. We start with an unshaped mass of raw footage, that we chip away at, and shape until we find the story that lies within.
I truly appreciate your patience with this process, and continued engagement up to this point. I will continue to keep you posted on our progress as we work to get this film done, and into your hands.
Second, it has been a bit of a sad week in the world of MMA, as Dana White (President of the UFC) announced that Jens Pulver has been released from his fighting contract.
I know that Jens has a lot of love for the UFC, and its organizers, and most of all the sport of MMA. And, though Jens and I have not spoken about his next move, and I won't speculate as to what that may be, I do personally believe that somehow, someway, we will see Jens compete again in the sport he helped pioneer.
Additionally, I must reiterate what a priveledge it has been to follow him, and tell his story. A responsibility that I have taken very seriously from day one, and is now multiplied knowing that we did indeed capture his 'last march' in the UFC.
Lastly, I'm happy to report that my other film (which I know some of you are aware of), PERSON OF INTEREST, a narrative feature I have been working on for the past 2+ years has been completed, garnering some great reviews, and invited to screen at venues around the country.
You can learn more about the film, and what people are saying about it, at: http://www.personofinterestmovie.com
And, how to get a copy of the film at our PERSON OF INTEREST Kickstarter page:

Again, you all have my sincerest gratitude for your kind, and continued support.
With Warm Regards,
Gregory
