About this project
What if you were practically paralyzed with fear every time you wanted to walk out your front door? What if you could barely muster the courage to do so every day? What if you had to talk yourself out of a sheer panic every time you wanted to start your car? This is what ArLynn Presser goes through every day. Sometimes it takes her minutes to build up the strength, sometimes hours, sometimes she can't do it at all. ArLynn struggles with agoraphobia and chronic anxiety and she's sick of being debilitated by them. She's lived with this for over 30 years and this past New Years Eve, resolved to try and conquer her worst fears. She's going to visit all 335 of her Facebook friends around the world by the end of the year. Some live in her home town of Chicago, but others live in L.A, New York, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, Canada, England, Italy, India, United Arab Emirates, Taiwan, Korea, Philippines and more.
To realize her dream and conquer her worst enemy, ArLynn will have to circumnavigate the globe to put a face to Facebook. She will meet people she hasn't seen since grade school, close friends and family and people she's never met outside of Facebook. This will be an epic journey around the world, to discover herself, her own personal strength, to emerge from her shell of paralyzing fears to experience the world and discover the amazing stories of her friends and family.This documentary will shadow ArLynn as she struggles every day to just walk out her front door with the determination to conquer her fears. It will be an inspiring journey of one woman against herself and the world, using Facebook as her means of connecting with the outside world, both online and now, in real life. With interviews from ArLynn, her friends across the globe, her family, psychiatric experts, experts on social media, and the people she encounters, we will go along with her on this incredible journey, showing not only her personal journey, but the glorious wonders of the world that she would otherwise have missed if she had succumbed to her fears.
Part personal journey, part exploration, “Face to Facebook” will be a visually stunning, emotionally compelling and incredibly inspiring story of one woman taking on the world to truly face herself, realize her potential and conquer a disorder that has left her isolated for years. It will be a candid look at a woman who struggles with her own fears, a stunning look at the world around us through fresh eyes. It is a heartwarming tale of friends whose stories and support help shape a view of who ArLynn is and who she can become.
The funds raised from Kickstarter are going exclusively to travel expenses for this incredible circumnavigation of the globe. Ben Gonzales- Director/Producer:
Since graduating in 2000 with a degree in Cinema and Photography from Southern Illinois University, Ben was an associate producer for independent feature films such as “Heavens Fall”, “No God, No Master” & “Almost Salinas”. He was the Director of Photography on a short, “Dancing with Gaia” Ben is an award winning photographer and videographer in Chicago.
Chad Wilson – Producer
Chad has produced and directed 4 documentary features, a feature length horror film, 20 music videos, and over 50 commercials and industrials. Earlier this year, some of Chad’s work was selected by Saturday Night Live Alumnus Nora Dunn for a showcase at the “Just for Laughs Film Festival.
