You guys are absolutely amazing. The Multiplex: Book 1 Club of Awesome Kickstarter Project has officially passed $7500, so it has officially made its goal! Thank you so much!
So I know what you're thinking: What happens next?! First — we wait. I can not end the project before December 11th, so there's still time for people to cancel (booooo), become a new backer (yaaaaay), or even increase their pledge (YAAAAAY) — and then I need to wait approximately two weeks before all the payments get processed and turned over to me.
This is just as well, because — as I've said before — I won't have any more time than usual to put towards the Multiplex print book until February and March, when I will be taking two months off from my regular day job to finish up all the bonus material, get the T-shirts made, sketches drawn, etc.
Why do I still want more backers? As a professional freelancer, I have to pay quarterly estimate payments on my taxes, so I'm stuck paying income tax on the Kickstarter pledges in January — obviously long, long before I will actually see any book sales. With this $7500, after Amazon Payments' credit card fees and income taxes, I'll be almost immediately out $2100.
See the graphic below for a run-down of (most of?) the costs associated with printing the books and the Kickstarter project. Obviously, I'll be getting a healthy profit off of each book sold — but that won't be until after I've had to absorb all of these costs. And the graphic doesn't include any of my living expenses for the two months I'll be working on the book (which, of course, the project was meant to cover at least partly).
I do have money saved up to cover any costs that the Kickstarter Project does not cover, so as long as half of you don't cancel your pledges (boo), the book will definitely happen now. But if the Kickstarter Project can cover more of these expenses, obviously I'll be better off, and the book will be better off!
So keep those pledges coming, but thank you so incredibly much to everyone who has backed the project so far. You're the greatest.

I have been reading this web comic from the very beginning, and as a Projectionist at a local Multiplex myself, many of them things I can relate too. Keep up the great work, and I look forward to recieving the items at some point in time. (or else I will hunt you down. ^_^ just messing with you)

Gordon McAlpin says: Well, if you don't quite pledge enough now, I will send you an angry e-mail and ask for it via PayPal when I'm ready to mail out your rewards! :) Just kidding.
For the $50 reward level, please add an additional $15 (rather than $10 for the $30 level) for international shipping.
Thank you!
Thank you very much!
Ros Houldsworth says: Woohoo Gordon! Congratulations so far. I'm increasing my pledge to the $50 in the hope that it'll go some way towards your taxes too. Can't wait for the book. Btw, do I have to increase the pledge to include the P&P to the UK or does that get charged to me later?
