"One of the best unsigned bands in Los Angeles" needs money to make a new record.
Hey, we're LA Font. We're an indie rock band from Echo Park. You may also know us as "one of the top unsigned bands in Los Angeles" (Rawkblog), or as purveyors of "great rock songs" (We Listen For You) that are "a breath of fresh air" (Buzzbands LA), or as the band that "fills the niche for those who like indie tunes reminiscent of the mid-'90s" (Los Angeles Times) – maybe even "the frontrunner to beat for L.A.'s 2012 break-out artist" (Music + Moxie). Maybe you know us from our Silverlake Lounge residency, or hearing our latest single "Sharks" on KCRW, or from the "Fine Lines" video with Sasquatch and the flying dog. Or maybe you know us because you spotted us buying Budweiser Clamatos at AM/PM.
But for the next six weeks, you get to know us as beggars. Here's why:
For most of 2011, we were writing a full-length album. We think it's going to be something really special and we can't wait to get it recorded. To do that, we drafted an awesome producer – Eric Palmquist, who just did amazing recordings of two of L.A.'s best bands, Wavves and Fool's Gold. He loves our music, and wants to record it at one of the eastside's best recording studios: Infrasonic Sound.
Our problem is, making a new record and getting it out there is going to be really expensive. It takes a team of professional engineers a long time to record, mix and master a 40-minute album. Then there's the costs of equipment and 10 days in a world-class studio. All together, putting this record out is going to cost us well more than $10,000.
We like things to be free: we play tons of free shows. We give our music away online. But it's not free to make an album that sounds awesome, and we believe that these songs deserve to come roaring out of your speakers sounding amazing.
We're going to empty our own pockets to make this album, but it's still not going to be anywhere close to enough money. So this is where you come in: you can help us! You can send us the money we need to make this album.
This is NOT charity: we have some awesome rewards for you if you pitch in. For just $10, you guarantee yourself a free download the day the album is done – no waiting for a release date. If you pledge $25 or more, we start sending you things like posters, vinyl records, tickets to our shows. And if you want to see your name in the liner notes when the album is released, or if you want us to play in your living room or backyard, or if you want to go on a date with Harlow, you just have to pledge a little more. We've even got your name on a pair of free seats when we play at the Hollywood Bowl if you're feeling real flush.
We've only got six weeks to meet our fundraising goal or we don't get any money. We know that if you help us out, we'll make it. And we can't wait till we get this thing done – then we can make the record and take you all out to AM/PM for Budweiser Clamatos. Let's do it!
