About this project
To celebrate National Arts and Humanities Month, Girls’ Club will host Art Fallout in collaboration with 1310 Gallery at Sailboat Bend Artist Lofts, the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale, FAT Village, Full Circle Gallery and Legacy Art Gallery to support and promote the production and presentation of contemporary art in Downtown Fort Lauderdale.
All South Florida artists are invited to submit artworks to a one-day open-call works on paper exhibition called ART FALLOUT: UNFRAMED at Girls’ Club, at 117 NE 2nd Street, held Saturday, October 15th, 2011, from 5pm to 8pm. Works on paper are accepted and presented to the public for the one day exhibition event. A panel of prominent South Florida arts professionals will informally judge the works in the exhibition on their merits, and the public is invited to give personal feedback to the artists via a system of color-coded handwritten messages. A fun way to connect artists and art enthusiasts, perhaps inspiring individuals to start their own art collections!
Guidelines and submission forms for artists: www.girlsclubcollection.org/events
Neighboring artist spaces, galleries and the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale will join in and host their own exhibition openings and events. Look for the round purple Fallout signs designating each location.
A free bus will operate from 5pm to 9pm to transport attendees from one event space to the next. Free parking is available at: NW 1st Ave between NE 5th & NE 6th Streets in F.A.T. Village and NE 2nd Avenue across from Girls’ Club.
Last year in its inaugural year, Art Fallout attracted over 400 visitors. The open call exhibition showed works by more than 80 artists. Our goal is to further ignite enthusiasm, bring together local artists and art venues, and to develop new audiences for contemporary art in our community. Art aficionados will be pleased to discover the hotbed of creativity that is developing in Fort Lauderdale.
A print flyer announcing the event, map of Art Fallout sites, and how to participate will be widely distributed in Broward and Miami-Dade Counties. More information is available at www.artfallout.blogspot.com.
A limited edition t-shirt for Art Fallout 2011 designed by Miami artist Julie Davidow will be available for sale that day at Girls’ Club.
