Poet Giaco Furino will travel 7000 miles via Amtrak through the month of August, writing a completely new book of poetry and blogging!
I fear that poetry, like the locomotive, is slowly but surely becoming a thing of the past. Poetry in Locomotion is my attempt to reignite a passion in people for both the poem and the train! I'm going on a month long train trip all around the country and the goal is, first and foremost, to write! I will write a brand new book of poems completely made while on this journey around the States.
I'll start in Philadelphia and move on toward Chicago, then over to Seattle, then to Los Angeles and finally to Austin, TX before heading back to Philadelphia. Those aren't the only cities I'll visit. If a town catches my eye as I'm passing through I intend to get off the train and stay a while. I want to meet new people. I want to see parts of the country I've never seen before. And most of all I want to write and experience and soak in this amazing country!!!
Each town I stop in I will interact with the local community. I'll pitch in at the local library, give poetry readings and poetry workshops! Poetry is a thing to be spread around, and I intend to share my joy of verse with much of the country!
Also, I will live blog the whole way. On my personal blog you'll find constant updates, as well as posted poems and even videos I shoot while on the rails!
