Scenario 1: Reading on my iPad is great but my hands get stressed out. I have to keep my iPad propped on a desk because I can't hold it comfortably when I'm sitting or lying down.

Scenario 2: My favorite iPad game is Need4Speed. But I've never been able to get used to holding the iPad. It doesn't feel like a steering wheel. My palms get sweaty and turn red. And my fingers hurt after I've played for a while.

Scenario 3: I carry my iPad all day for work while I visit clients. The iPad works great, but it's really slippery. I've got to hold on tight or I'll drop it. I don't want a clunker case on my iPad with all that extra weight. My hands hurt. I hope I don't get carpal tunnel.

Comfe Hands works by changing the pinch grip to a power grip. If you want to feel the difference...hold and squeeze the iPad in one hand and a racquet / tennis / baseball in the other.

The human hand is naturally curved. Just take a look at your palm. Seriously, look! See the curvy lines? See how your fingers are curved from the base to the tips?

Tablets are flat. Something human seems to be missing. Pinching anything for a long time can be fatiguing. Comfe Hands simply fills the gap in a way that's intuitive and unobtrusive so the hand is grasping instead of pinching.

A fringe benefit is that it can be used as a stand. And with one on each corner, the resilient ABS and rubberized Santoprene can protect from bumps and short falls.

Comfe Hands has an intuitive push-on construction, no glue or snapping. And it holds securely so you don't have to worry about the iPad slipping out of your hands. It's lightweight (little more than a smart cover), non-toxic, fully recyclable, and very durable.

How we did / do it.

As simple as it looks, I've been designing Comfe Hands for two years. Here's the first commercial.

I released in early January to get customers' feedback and feature requests. To implement those features, I need sophisticated production tooling and a sizable order to generate some steam. The materials we'll be using are ABS and Santoprene, the same as used in many of the top brands we have around the house--OXO kitchen tools and Dewalt power tools, for example. 

The manufacturing process is called overmolding, which gives us both quality and speed. Our manufacturing will take place mostly in the US. This effort so far has been 100% in the USA and we'd like to keep it that way. We have the manufacturing resources and are ready to begin.

With your help, we can make mom and dad, grandma and grandpa, and everyone else more happy and comfortable with their new iPad. Soon after I hope to expand to other tablets and additional models for specific tablet activities and age groups. Please help me make this dream come true. FAQs:

What if I have really big hands?

Comfe Hands is made for an average hand size. It works for most guys and girls from small children to adults. If you have really big hands (i.e., you play for the Lakers), please shoot us an email and we'll see what we can do.

Can I use them with my case?

Comfe Hands was made to be used without a case. Some cases are thin enough that it doesn't matter. Smart covers are great for this since they remove easily while in use. If you've got an otter box, you'll have to take it off.

How do I carry them? 

Comfe Hands is meant to be used when you need it. If you want to stow the iPad, you can easily pull them off and put them into a backpack. They fit neatly into bags and purses, or in a desk drawer.

Will Comfe Hands scratch the screen?

No! Comfe Hands is made of a soft and gripping Santoprene that contacts the iPad surface. It's fantastic stuff. Imagine a cross between a racquetball and a gel pad. Comfe Hands will caress your hand and your iPad.
