General Bye Bye is the result of an unlikely encounter in January 2008 of four people with completely different musical backgrounds. Left to their own devices they could have become, respectively, a Kantele’s conductor in Lapland, a producer of James Last Orchestra tributes, a singer of lullabies in Iceland or a gypsy guitar hero in Tajikistan. But instead, they got together.
Philippe BEER-GABEL (vocals, guitar, kantele), Jana KLEIN (vocals), Emmanuel QUIRIE (keyboards) and last but not least, the space cadet Etienne GILLET (drums, bugle), established their headquarters in Montreuil where they conceived their plans to produce new music that would blend sources and blur the lines between genres.
With sharp guitar riffs that suggest Blonde Redhead, sparkling piano Rhodes and a dreamy drum style, General Bye Bye have sculpted floating melancholic music that compliments the interwoven vocals. If they seem more gentle on their debut album, on stage they are transformed. Live, the Tana Quartet is substituted with psychedelic keyboards that hook the listener.
The band, armed with their first full-length album and a powerful live set, is on the march…
