The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth!

Hi, my name is Wendy and I've raised my kids as geeks from the moment they were born. Of course...I named them Anakin & Kal-El...so, ya know.

In our geek kid friendly webseries, Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth, my son Anakin and I will take you on a journey to the Geekiest Places on Earth with our own brand of dialog and wit. Anakin is the co-host and has an amazing sense of humor. When he and I are firing off of each other...look out! Geek family attack!

My other son, Kal-El may step in for a few segments of his own, but he hasn't decided how he wants to participate.

This is a travelogue/talk show series that is interactive. We'll answer questions from other geek kids, parents & anyone who poses question for us. We'll do so by opening our videos to responses via our YouTube Webchannel.

Our show is kid friendly, but is interesting for geeks of ALL ages. We like to think we're at the most, PG-13-ish...you know, Temple of Doom rated. If we discuss any game or show with M or R ratings, we'll note it and point parents in the right direction for reviews.

This project has been in the works since 2009, since before Anakin wanted to get involved with it. I wanted to travel to the Geekiest Places on Earth & get it out there that we geeky people really do have a large stake in this world. When Anakin wanted to be involved, it made that title all the more relevant.

What are the incentives?

If you look at the incentives on the right, you'll see many tokens of our appreciation & gratitude!

     - DVD Release of the First Season: A physical copy of the First Season.
       We expect this to be released in the Spring of 2013.

You will receive the button, sticker, t-shirt in approximately August. The other items will come separately as they are received.

What are you doing with the money?

The money that you donate will go to Kickstart our first season. We will use the money for:

      - 2 Prosumer grade cameras. (Camera 1 & Camera 2)

      - Sound equipment.

      - Lighting Equipment

      - A Video Capture Card to film game reviews.

      - Material costs for promoting our project.

      - Travel Expenses for our first season.

If you are a web & graphic designer, or even a video editor, we will humbly and gladly take your in-kind donation of help! I work a full time job and we'd be doing all the work in our spare time, any time that we can get to do important mommy/kid things would be appreciated on so many levels! If we meet our goal, Anakin will be coming with me to San Diego Comic Con where I volunteer in the films department every year. We will travel by train and film our experience of the Pacific Coast Liner. Because...trains are rad.

Anakin first went to San Diego Comic Con in 1998...IN MY BELLY! Then again at 7 months old. Then 2 other times since. He was bummed that it wasn't in our budget to go this year since we moved to Seattle.

Since Kal-El has issues with large, over-stimulating crowds, he may not be going with us to conventions unless there's extra help. Which includes having an extra hand coming with us to San Diego Comic Con. You see, being a single mom is challenging, being a single mom of a kid with autism is a bigger challenge. I treasure the support that I get from friends and family. I appreciate everyone who is capable of helping with Kal-El. He's an amazing kid! (Thanks Mom, Dad, Sis & Bro!)

How will you decide which geek spots you will visit?

We currently reside in Seattle, WA...GEEK CENTRAL! And our first few shows will revolve around local Northwest locations. We will hit up Astoria, OR to interact with the Goonies scene. And we'll report about one of our other favorite destinations, The Star Wars Shop in Aberdeen, WA.

Our schedule is being written as we speak and we will be contacting several Seattle area Geek destinations. Our wishlist is AFK Tavern, Card Kingdom, The EMP's Sci Fi Museum, among others.

We would love to continue to visit locations around the United States or the World eventually. We'll be looking for people to help us with accommodations & travel sponsorship. If you have any suggestions of Geek destinations, feel free to post on Facebook or send us a Tweet!

How many episodes in your first season?

We estimate a new episode every two weeks starting in August with our travelogue episodes being heavier during the summer. Our 1st Season will be 6 months long and be approximately 12-14 episodes.

Each episode is estimated to be about 25-30 minutes long. 

Our show will also include video game, comics, books, television, movie & product reviews. We'll have a couch talk segment where we've set up a couch in our own home and we'll film about general geekery.

This show is a great idea. Why a Kickstarter? Why not shop a channel on television to produce your show for you?

I love watching travelogue shows on television, they are great!. But what we want is to have creative control over our own projects and to have control over our advertisers. Having children, I want to be able to protect them from the "industry" and make this a more inviting process by having it be a family project. Our locations will be interesting locations, not just ones that drop dollars in our pockets. We believe in crowdsourcing because we can have people LIKE YOU fund us to be free with our creative process. We don't want to have to stoop to cheap tricks to get viewers and fans. We want to be able to cut out the middle man and make sure that our family is successful and the fans are entertained. Crowdsourcing is how we believe we can be successful and be more accessible to geek fans. We believe in the POWER OF THE INTERNETZ!

Who is Anakin?

Anakin is a 13 year old who has already started his online career on his own doing Video Game Walk-Thrus from behind the camera as 9SuperSonic9 on YouTube. He's nervous about being in front of the camera, but is very excited about the prospects of doing our own webseries and traveling to awesome Geeky Destinations.

Anakin loves science, video games, Portal, Minecraft, Runescape, Zelda, Mario, Sonic, Mythbusters, Doctor Who (David Tennant is his doctor) & The Simpsons.

Who is Kal-El?

Kal-El is 11 and autistic. He struggles with the social aspects of life & we will be including him in the show for his own segments. He's trying to figure out how he wants to be involved, but we do not pressure him to perform. Well, we don't pressure Anakin to perform either, but especially not Kal-El.

Kal-El loves science, Time Travel, Back to the Future, Adventure Time, Dinosaurs, Mythbusters & he wants to create a Rube Goldberg Machine.

Who is Wendy?

Wendy started the Slaughter County Roller Vixens (Kitsap County, WA) in 2006 with her best friend & a group of strong women and skated under the name Nerd Rage #42 for 3 years. She is currently on hiatus, but leaving the derby community when she lost her job was very hard since it was her life blood and inspiration to keep going.

She's been in an Xbox commercial and was part of the theatre life growing up in her home town of Bremerton, WA.

"Since 2009, a lot of changes have happened in my little family. Losing my job at a company I'd been with for 3 years when the store closed. Trying to find another job in this world can make it hard for a geek to be happy.

Then last year I got a job at Archie McPhee! It was actually on my list of Geeky Destinations so it felt pretty good that they saw in me the same qualities that I saw in myself. A knack for entertaining, a hard work ethic & being huge goofball as well as creative artistically. I moved myself and my kids to the city of Seattle, WA in February 2012.

I love My Kids, Doctor Who, Star Wars, Star Trek, Skyrim, Portal, Dance Central, Plants vs Zombies, Robots, Zombies in general, Shaun of the Dead, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, Scott Pilgrim, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Mythbusters, Community, 30 Rock, Parks & Rec, I'm a fitness geek, I love real life superheroes and inspirational people. Yeah, I'm talkin to you, Purple Reign & Phoenix Jones."

Please help us Kickstart our project! We've got a lot of support from the Geek Community & we feel that we can bring a lot to the rest of the world. This show can help other geek kids (and adults, parent or non-parent) feel like there's places & people out there who do like them for who they are and that they will OWN it one day...when Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth.

The goal of this project may become a for profit project for myself & my kids. It will encourage creativity for my kids, and we will be able to experience and share with the world. Where we'd like this to become a not for profit business, we know working on something like this could end up taking up a large portion of our time and resources and it may end up requiring it to be a way for us to make a living doing something we love. I want to encourage my children to become entrepreneurs and to take action. Therefore, this will be for profit and we thank you all for giving us this opportunity to make our dreams come true!
