About this project
The Day in Tech History (www.dayintechhistory.com) is a part of Geekazine.com, it is brought to you by host Jeffrey Powers. The idea of this show is to document technology history on a daily basis. It is a podcast that runs EVERY DAY - 365 days a year.
Jeffrey has been working on this timeline for the last 5 years. He has an extensive collection of news in technology and some geek culture (where pertainant). All show notes are found on the Wiki - Wikazine.com
Day in Tech History plans for 2012
The day in tech history is expanding in the next year. The plan is to split from Geekazine so I can add more content other than the audio. This would include photos, old ads and video spots in technology history.
With the split, I hope to get 1-2 people to help add stuff to the Day in tech history project. The more content, the better.
What You Get in Backing
If you donate $25 or more, you will be "Backer for a day". You will be one of four backers for the day in question. Of course, if you want to back the day all by yourself, you can buy an "Exclusive" backing.

Thanks to John for this email question: The Day in Tech History is not an easy task to collect data. Some of it was done on-line, other parts were actually spent looking through old periodicals.
On average, one month worth of data research to update the site takes 3 hours. Therefore it takes 40 hours to update one year, If you went from 1985 - 2011, over 2000 man hours have been put into collecting data.
Now with finalization of data and placement into Wikazine.com - Add another 100 hours to that. Recording of the show can be as easy as 6 minutes, but add in corrections and audio fixes and it averages to 15-20 minutes an episode. That comes to appx. 10 hours a month, 150 hours a year for recording Tech History.
Creating blog posts, finding images and cataloging the page is another 10 hours a week.
Ultimately, over 3000 man hours have been put into this show so far (including when it started as the Week in Tech History). That is equivalent to working a job, 40 hours a week for 1 1/2 years (2080 hours in a work year).

You can get a Synopsis on www.dayintechhistory.com, but if you go over to the Wiki page (http://wikazine.com/index.php?title=Day_in_Technology_History_Project), select the date on the page and you can read all for the day.

YES! I had to close the Wiki because of the spammers and bots messing up the board. However, if you want to add content, send me your email (geekazine at gmail). I will add you as a contributor.

YES! If you want to talk about a specific event, or what's happening in technology history for the week. I am available to go on your show or be quoted on your blog. Email me and we'll set up a time to talk! (geekazine at gmail)

Let's hope it doesn't get to that. Basically, I will fill in spots until all backers are accounted for. Once that is done, it will most likely go back to a conventional sponsorship model, or look for another type of backer.
I do also have the show available as a promotion item for a technology company. They can sell it like an audio calendar. Email me at geekazine @ gmail for more info on that.
The other issue is time. As I mentioned before, it takes about 40 hours to collect information to update the year and around 20-25 hours a month to record, finalize audio, create posts and market the show. I will need to focus attention on making ends meet (like getting bills paid), which means picking up more projects.I can't cut corners on research, so I'll have to find a way to cut corners on recording. I can tell you though from experience, the less time I have to focus on the show, the harder it is to get all the relevant data.

YES! Just recently, I began creating and posting YouTube segments. It runs down 1 item for each day, and the overview show takes approximately two and a half minutes. You can find that at www.youtube.com/geekazine
