Prototype of a bottle of GCS Seasoning
Prototype of a bottle of GCS Seasoning

Hi there. My name is Sheila and I’m a single parent of two beautiful daughters (Twins). I am the main host of The Ghetto Cooking Show, an online video show co-hosted by my daughters. With every episode it is our hope that each viewer is able to witness the importance of family time, parent/child bonding and preparing delicious meals.

My love for food and cooking has taken me on a journey that I could have never imagined happening. It started the day that a friend encouraged me to start a vlog (video blog). I thought, “Whatever would I talk about?" and then the idea of recording me cooking came to mind. My initial thought was that it would be a great way to advertise the book that I wrote but almost immediately the book took a bit of a back seat and everyone fell in love with The Ghetto Cooking Show.

The name proved itself to be a two-fold blessing. The first being it caught everyone’s eye and sparked curiosity. Secondly it played on the thought that some look at alternative methods of doing things unconventionally as being ghetto, unrefined and unsophisticated. It was my desire to bring cooking down to a basic level so that individuals of all classes and socio-economical status could learn how to use whatever they had in their home to prepare great tasting food.

My initial challenge was figuring out how to get this idea to fruition, so I solicited the assistance of my daughters; Anetra & Ashlee and that’s when the real magic happened. We invited the world into our home and everyone was able to witness the beauty of our family gathering in the kitchen, cooking, talking, laughing and loving.

Our show has come a very long way. The first episode was taped using my cell phone, a Palm Treo (Do they still make those?). When my financial situation improved, I purchased a Flipcam. Our episodes have moved from being viewed only on Facebook to now being broadcast globally on Youtube. I even came up with the idea of hosting a contest for a theme song, which was won by a great talented guy named Fred The Genius. His prize was a serving of Top Ramen noodles, some hot sauce and other fun items. I had no budget for anything bigger than that. LOL

Over the last year, The Ghetto Cooking Show (GCS) has grown to 260,020 video views on Youtube (current count to date). We receive views and comments from all over the world. We started off with baby steps and just by following a dream, we’ve grown the show into something really special. I hope to take this dream to another level by continuing to share my love of cooking, my quick and easy cooking tips and my special how-to’s with the world and this is why I need your help.

After careful thought I’ve decided to expand the GCS brand in a way that will allow me to place tangible love in all of the homes across the world and that is with my own line of spices & seasoning. The blend will be bottled up and sold through my website. While there are other brands out there, none are crafted with the blend that I have come up with. My only issue is that I don’t have the funds that I need to get started.

Although I work a full-time job, I am supporting the girls in college (out of state tuition) without any other assistance so money is pretty tight for me. I’ve done a financial projection of what it will cost me to purchase all supplies to get started and that is how I came up with the pledge amount.

I thank you for taking the time to read my introduction and I hope that you will consider taking this wonderful ride with us. Eventually GCS Seasoning will be on every supermarket shelf and as you pass it by, you’ll smile knowing that your generous contribution has helped to pave the way to getting it there.

Peace & Blessings
