About this project

The Solarium is an art piece being built for Burning Man 2011.  Like a small planetarium for the sun, it strives to recreate our skies and offers the viewer a moment away from the noise and offers time to enjoy the wonders of watching a sunrise and nightfall, created with a field of LEDs along the inside of its domed ceiling.

This 8-foot tall structure allows participants to share an special experience often missed in day to day life. Operating at night, it will display a continuous sunrise/daytime/sunset/nighttime cycle against the inside dome of the structure every nine minutes, the amount of time most people spend between hitting snooze every morning.

During the day a solar panel array will recharge the batteries that power the LEDs that form this immersive experience.
