FUTURE WEATHER World Premiere

Dear friends,

Sunday was the world premiere of FUTURE WEATHER at the Tribeca Film Festival. It was a tremendous experience for Kristin and me. The culmination of so much creative energy and an endless amount of work shared with loved ones and film-lovers on a gorgeous day in NYC. It really doesn’t get any better.

FUTURE WEATHER’s festival premiere was over six years in the making – as momentous as a wedding or the birth of a child. You’ve all played such an integral role in the final chapter of our first film that we wanted to share as much of the day as possible with you before we drop from sheer exhaustion.

The day began with a flurry of press interviews and photo shoots. Perla (Lauduree) and Anubhav (Neel) are no longer the thirteen-year-old kids we captured on film two summers ago. We hung out at the sunny Tribeca Film Festival offices all day – Bill Sadler kept everyone laughing; Perla drew intricate faces and snapped lots of photos; and Amy Madigan’s infectious laugh echoed throughout the mult-level space. It was a fantastic way to reunite with our cast and get excited for the evening ahead.

Our cast looked stunning and kept the carpet buzzing with photos and interviews. Before we knew it, it was time to get a seat in the theater. The next 100 minutes are kind of a secret, because if this Kickstarter thing works out, you’ll actually get to see FUTURE WEATHER someday, and I don’t want to spoil it for you! I can say that there were lots of laughs and gasps from the audience – such a beautiful sound after spending over a year in the edit room. As the end credits rolled, I watched the light play across faces in the audience. It was somehow familiar and warm and felt just right.

Next was a panel sensitively moderated by the Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker Marshall Curry. What an honor to share the stage with an ensemble cast I love and am awed that I got to work with: Amy Madigan, Lili Taylor, Marin Ireland, Perla Haney-Jardine, William Sadler, and Anubhav Jain.

To top the night off, the film industry trade mag Variety published a review calling the film “striking and emotional” and Perla’s performance “pure grace.” 

Kristin and I have been dying for the opportunity to release this story into the world where it can do what it’s intended to: move people to laugh and cry and talk, and feel that the world is somehow different after. Tribeca gave us a taste of that potential, but without your help, the film won’t go much further.
We are $19K away from our fundraising goal to finish the work needed to get FUTURE WEATHER out into the world and to audiences like you. FUTURE WEATHER may have a few known cast members, but it’s still small and independently financed. A distributor is not going to swoop in and pay off our remaining expenses and save the day. That is up to us and you.
