Crazy? Pray tell when is receiving two stories that are mutually exclusive crazy? Flame? What part of my message is a flame. It is a "request" for a straight answer. Do you believe that "we cancelled" and "kickstarter suspended our account" as the same thing? Exactly how? Please explain.

The fact is, irrespective of access to e-mail lists, there are 2 stories being put out by you. The one your customer support people at the website is giving out and the one the messages being posted here. Two stories about the same incident with different answers but both purporting to be the truth.

This is an exact quote from the e-mail sent by YOUR customer support: "We've cancelled our Kickstarter project after selling thousands of iPod Touch / iPhone Sleeves at FreedomPop.com. We are self funding our project and guaranteeing product shipment to begin in 6-8 weeks."

This is what you say here: "...we have been unable to receive an explanation from Kickstarter as to why our project has been suspended."

Now who is lying? "We cancelled" or "kickstarter suspended" These are mutually exclusive explanations. You need to get your lies...I mean story straight, because OBVIOUSLY someone here is lying. Care to explain that?

      Frank,

We apologize for the lack of communication.  We have no access to the email addresses of our backers on Kickstarter, nor do we have the ability to send out a mass message to all of our backers on Kickstarter. As for an explanation as to what happened, we have been unable to receive an explanation from Kickstarter as to why our project has been suspended.

Your comment does not make sense. you should have sent all backers an email informing us of what happened. The fact that Kickstarter blocked you from communicating on the Kickstarter project page does not prevent you from contacting us by our email address explaining what happened. Based on what I have read it appears that you were taking orders from through your website in addition to taking our funding through Kickstarter. According to the rules on Kickstarter this is not allowed.

You owe your 440 backers an explanation as to what Realy happen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First of all, we want to thank you - our most valued early supporters, for helping FreedomPop with your Kickstarter funding.

We apologize for being unable to communicate with you in last few hours since Kickstarter suspended our project. Unfortunately, we've been blocked, without notice or comment by Kickstarter from all communication with our supporters. Since our project was suspended and our team was provided no guidance from Kickstarter as to timing for re-enabling our project, we made the decision to cancel our project on Kickstarter and migrate our supporters to FreedomPop site for pre-order. We've already taken thousands of pre-orders via our website, ensuring launch of both our innovative devices and FREE wireless internet service over the next 6-8 weeks.

If you have already funded our Kickstarter project and want to guarantee your priority position for shipment, please pre-order your preferred Sleeve at FreedomPop.com and use your same First Name and Last Name as your Kickstarter account. All funding for our Kickstarter project has been cancelled and you will only be charged by pre-ordering at FreedomPop

      iPod Touch Sleeve - http://www.freedompop.com/freedom-sleeve-ipod-touch

      iPhone Sleeve - http://www.freedompop.com/preorder.htm

We apologize for this inconvenience, however, Kickstarter left us no choice and we wanted to move as quickly as possible. If you have any questions, please contact support@freedompop.com. Once again, thank you for your support.

I think one of the previous posters stated it correctly. Kickstarter is supposed to be an exclusive platform. But if they took hundreds of preorders through their website it kinda defeats the KS purpose. I had preordered this as an initial reaction to the suspension on here but I'm pulling it now. I rather wait and see what happens. If they can offer the same 'exclusive' prices on their preorder pages just as on KS I feel kind of cheated.
Best of luck to your company.

I agree with Karen, we were told here it would start shipping in Sept...now it is 6-8 weeks....and then we have to pay for the upgraded version when they go to Sprint LTE. I ordered online last night but now I think I am going to have to pull the plug on this one. Such a shame, great idea, LAME execution.

I agree with the previous posters. We should have been notified by email of the cancellation by FreedomPop not Kickstarter or FB. I don't feel comfortable giving my billing info, too. If you are that progressuve a company why not PayPal? In addition, no one should be charged until the device is shipped. Lastly, the shipping date has been delayed. Awesome idea, very poor marketing.

I know and saw there comment. However if you read the rules in Kickstarter it is my understanding that you can not take orders from your website until after the funding is done. After that process is done then you can take orders on your website. The orders taken under Kickstarter must be completed and ship before they can deal with the additional orders through their website. There is something wrong and I think that we need a more detail reason on what happened. I also never heard of them until I saw this Kickstarter Project. I am not sure that I want to subscribe to their plan until I know and understand what happen. However under the rules of Kickstarter they do not and will not comment on any action they take.

According to Kickstarter they will not give any information as to why they issued there suspension. I can agree with Kieth that it could be the result of an infringement violation. However I think it may be the result of the carries contacting Kickstarter claiming that this device is infringing on there service contacts. do not know however if FreedomPop is a good company they will and should explain this to us here or in a private email.

Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but I would be surprised if the Apple Legal Watchdogs sent off a nice letter to Kickstarter in the form of a Cease & Desist and well Kickstarter not wanting to be involved in anything of the sort just pulled their life raft aka Suspend the funding.

Im with all as this is total BS. No offense to FreedomPop, but I never heard of you before this. Not sure I feel 100% comfortable giving you my credit card info directly. I hope Freedompop is wise enough to give Kickstarter supporters priority status. Kickstarter should have never accepted the project in the first place if it violated its own rules. It definitely shouldn't have taken them 30 days to decide. Sad on so many levels.

i was so excited about getting the freedom pop case. Ahhh!!! WTF, why did i get suspended?

    27. Missing_small

Creator Marissa Mek. on September 11, 2012

I figured something odd must exist in kickstarter's rules, so I looked into the guidelines page and found this:
"Projects, projects, projects. As in all categories, Kickstarter is for projects that can be completed, not things that require maintenance to exist. This means no e-commerce sites, web businesses, or social networking sites. (Yes, this means Kickstarter wouldn’t be allowed on Kickstarter. Funny, but true.) "
I'm guessing that since Freedompop will require Clearwire to maintain a network in order for the product to exist properly, this is why kickstarter suspended the project.
Totally not cool, but up there on kickstarter's rules. Especially not cool because it was 105% funded and less than three days to completion.

So, when pre-ordering from the Freedompop site, the facebook page says that the orders are to be fulfilled starting late September and in order of when the pre-order was placed. Would that mean that we kickstarters would be at the end of the que even if we made our kickstarter pledge very early on?

Bien: Yes, the Freedom Sleeve can be turned on and off which will turn the WiFi on and off. You connect your iPod to the Freedom Sleeve wirelessly just like you would connect to the WiFi network at your house, school, coffee shop etc. Upon receiving your device you can set up your network name and password through the device utility.

Sam: You will be able to select an additional service to receive SMS or push alerts when you are approaching the end of free data

Sam and Ravi: This is an interesting idea! We will be looking into this.

Odie: We don't have any specific plans to release a 5th generation iPod Freedom Sleeve at this point. We cannot make plans until the specifications have been released. If we are to make a Freedom Sleeve for the iPod 5th generation is is likely to be quite a ways down the road.
