We’ve come to the final hour of the campaign and barring a miraculous save, we’re not going to meet our intended goal. It doesn’t mean the film won’t be made, it just means funding the film will fall mostly on myself.

Although we didn’t meet our campaign goal, we’ve built our fanbase and garnered new supporters along the way. And for that, I’m grateful!

It’s been over a year and countless hours devoted to getting this project from just words on a page to where it is today. We’ve developed the concept art, storyboards, shot lists, locations, previs, budget, production schedule and post schedule... We are on the cusp of going into production and all we need is to be greenlit by you!

A good live-action mech film is long overdue. They’ve existed in our imaginations since Robotech but for some reason or another a feature film hasn’t happened. Skywings will be the mech movie fans have been waiting for, telling a real human story in a wildly creative world, with the use of visionary machines set against a massive shift in the political landscape.

Skywings is an opportunity to tell an epic character’s journey, beginning with the short film SKYWINGS: EXODUS, and continuing into the feature-length story that has already been written. EXODUS will give us a strong indication of where Jason comes from and the forces he'll have to overcome in the full length film.

In EXODUS, we’ll follow 8-year old Jason Evans as he loses his father and is orphaned on a dystopian, alien infested Earth. And in future iterations of the Skywing's legacy, Jason grows up as a teenage "lost boy", toughened by the hardships but longing for more than his meager surroundings. He will overcome his circumstances to eventually become a decorated Skywing pilot.

We are filmmakers committed to telling a character-driven story filled with amazing visual effects and we want to bring you a studio-quality mech film. When you finally get to watch Skywings on the big screen the action sequences will feel like BLACKHAWK DOWN, the grim realness will feel like CHILDREN OF MEN, and the futuristic technology will feel like DISTRICT 9.

But even with our dedication to the visuals we are doubly dedicated to the characters. The main arc of our story will take us on an unforgettable journey through Jason’s life. We will learn what Jason wants and come to understand the fears and obstacles that keep him from what he needs to accomplish, and we’ll be rooting for him every step of the way.

The reality is that until today there was no chance of making a studio-quality film like this without... a studio. We could have all the resources and collaborators lined up but the final word is the funding.

The alternative would be finding external financial sources like investment firms, studios, or loans. And while they could get this project off the ground, they would also be the loudest voice in the room. Because of their investment, they could pull the project in a different direction, take it over, or shelve it completely!

The more money from outside sources we take, the harder it is to retain control and direction. And if you know anything about the development of films, this is why most movies end up being mediocre, concerned more about the bottom line instead of letting the filmmakers dedicate their effort to developing good characters, story and plot.

But I'm not asking you to give without putting my money where my mouth is. I'm putting a good portion of my own money into the budget. I'm also hitting the pavement asking family, friends and strangers (people that wouldn't be a part of the Kickstarter community) to give. But there is no question that the realization of Skywings will rely heavily on your enthusiasm and generous contribution.

Make no mistake about it.... we (that is you and I) are developing an independent film on a large studio scale. With the money you give you are saying this is a movie you want to watch and filmmakers you want to support. You will be a part of the “Skwyings family” that is producing this film. Your money is hard earned, it’s not just a ‘simple’ donation.. you are truly creating something with your donation.

We are dedicated to making this a community project. Without you this movie will go into purgatory and never see the light of day. And we’re doing everything to make sure the dialogue and conversation between the filmmakers and the fanbase is ongoing. We know the biggest disappointment is actually making a contribution and then having that enthusiasm quickly die when the filmmaker goes radio silent. We understand it’s not just about getting the movie made, but it’s also about the commitment and engagement from supporters like you.

We’ve set our funding goal with the our most immediate and primary objective in mind: get into production. Once the funding goes through, we will immediately begin principal photography. Most of the budget will go towards hiring crew, production design, the camera package, vfx, locations and costumes. We have a separate and significant post-production budget so please know that every dollar we bring in today will go towards the entire budget of the film.

What I will say is that every dollar counts and no amount is too small. What I won’t say is 'the more money we get will make the movie better.' I’m firmly committed to making this film at the highest possible caliber or not making it at all. More money will make our jobs easier for sure, but it won’t change our level of commitment to producing the best quality film possible.
