How did you get through your adversity? A Magazine of user submitted biographies & pictures, inspired by Boxing Champ Freddy Jacks.
My Vision is to have this magazine published electronically & physically it will truly portray my great-grandfathers & peoples user submitted struggles in life and how people overcame adversity from a personal and athletic standpoint. The main focus will be boxing instructional and a sports related theme, the magazine will also be accompanied by a website, it will include a boxing instruction video upload section & a place for people to comment on & share their stories. Biography: My Great Grandfather Freddy Jacks had an extensive career. He is reported by the Everlast Boxing Record Book of 1922 to have had over 200 ring battles in England and Europe prior to 1920. He fought under a number of different names early in his career--i.e., Stoker Jacobs, Eddie Welch, and Sailor Jacks being some of his "nome de guerres." Most of the UK and Paris fights compiled by Gilbert Odd. Even with the over 160 fights entered here, there are still many more bouts that remain to be discovered. My family was living in a 50 story tenamin housing project where when you turned on the lights roaches scurried about, my grandfather had to carry butter up 46 flights of stair's, back in those days there were no elevators, in the freezing New York weather my grandfather would do this in terrible living conditions while his father Freddy Jacks would be fighting my families way out of the depression of pre & post 1920's. Freddy Jacks One of the busiest boxers in the square one newspaper article reads. Another newspaper article reads May 28 1921 Kilbane vs Jacks New York May 26 -At Cleveland Johnny Kilbane defeated on points in a 10-round. boxing match Freddy Jacks, a claimant of the British featherweight crown. The magazine will embody my great grandfathers extensive boxing career and the challenges he faced in life for example changing our families name from Koppelman to Jacques in 1922 so that my great-grandfather could get fights. Having a manager that didn't pay him what he was worth. Being Jewish in WW2 was no picnic. Any User submitted story is welcomed and listed in the rewards section. The magazine will be comprised of newspaper articles, stories, user submitted stories & comments and a boxing instructional guide. The website will include an electronic copy of the magazine, user uploaded videos about how you overcame your advertsity in life with a sports theme.
