A dark crime thriller about a group of normal but desperate men driven to kidnap a family for money.
I plan to shoot in September this year.
The film is fully cast. In place are Michael Bates, Steve Gunn, Keith Ward, Gerry Shanahan, Elaine Reddy, Rory Mullen and Brian Fortune. We have started rehearsals. I continue to develop the script, with the actors involvement. It is largely crewed with a great cinematographer, John Lawlor. And there is some money in place.
The cast are great. Really good. You'll see a small taste in the video above. We've had two readings and a rehearsal and it has just made me more determined to get this film made. I know it's going to be good.
I want to shoot the film in One Take.
So live and in realtime. The events of the film take place in an hour and a half, so I decided to put the actors in the environment and play it in realtime.
Next is to do that over five nights, like the run of a play with the camera on stage with the actors, watching them perform. But the film will be on location and will move all around that location.
Some funding has already been raised - about €1500.
Everyone involved so far have agreed to work for free, all the cast and crew, which is amazingly generous of them and encouraging, just knowing that they believe in the project so much.
But we still need some cash!
Further funding will go toward: insurance cost, equipment rental, travel expenses, costumes, make-up, food and everything it takes to make a film.
Then of course there are the costs that come after making a film!
A post production house in Dublin has agreed to allow to use the facilities for free, again, brilliant! But then comes the cost of beta transfers, DVD reproduction, print (poster, postcards, press-kits etc) and festival entry fees. The cost of getting the film out into the world to be seen by audiences.
I estimate all this will cost between €5000 and €10,000 (based on previous experience.) So I'm asking for $3000 (about €2000) here to help get us started.
Anything you give will go to good use and will really help get this film made.
So Thank you for you time. Thanks in advance to anyone who makes a pledge, or spreads the word about this film and for supporting and believing in independent filmmaking.
Please keep checking back for updates, pictures and videos. And please get in touch if you have any thoughts or questions about me, the film or the funding. Thanks again.
Kind Regards
Frank Kelly

Ireland. That's where I live. It is also a socially relevant piece to Ireland. It draws on what has happened here economically over the last 3 or 4 years and looks at the effect that has had on people.

Pretty Damn Cool.

I want to create the energy that would occur in the actual situation. I want the performances to be fraught with anxiety and tension. For the actors to feel the adrenaline of being on this ride from action until the end. With no cutting, no intermission, just go until it's done. I think that energy will translate to the screen.

I think five nights will be enough to get the coverage I need. While shooting in one take we may not capture everything the first time. Shooting the take five times will give us time to do that. It's a very short amount of time to shoot a full length feature film in, but again, I believe the energy and adrenaline of such a shoot will translate to energetic and exciting performances and situations.

We have access to several cameras. We will mainly be shooting on an Sony EX1. We will also have a FX7, a Cannon 7D and a RED on set. John Lawlor in the cinematographer. He is an ex-mountain bike race champion who now documents races. His approach to filming is fast, raw and energetic, exactly what this film needs. He is currently designing and building an exclusively designed rig to mount the camera so he can maneuver freely and easily for such a long period. The guy knows his stuff!

It will be sometime in 2012. I do not have a date yet. I will edit the film myself directly after the film. It will be brought online and finished - graded, sound mixed and exported at The Element in Dublin, a professional post production house who have generously donated their time, facilities and expertise to the production.

I will enter the film into film festivals around the world and seek distribution for a commercial release.

This is above what I'm asking, but it's also the estimated budget of the film - you can have everything mention above, but if you want to pay for the film you will receive an 'Executive Producer' credit and have full access to the process of the film being made. You will be included on every aspect of the filming, finishing, marketing, promotion and release of the film.
