By pledging as low as $5, you will help us get to Haiti to create this project. A pledge of $15 earns you a set of limited edition postcards.

The Mission:
In light of the earthquake that has hit Haiti in January of 2010, Formento+Formento plan to take project “Circumstance” to the women of Haiti. To go there and create emotionally charged portraits of Haitian women just as they are, giving each individual an honest and uncut voice. Widows and mothers, victims of abuse, orphans and students, nurses, coffee bean farmers, aspiring artists and beyond. We all have dreams, we all have stories to purge, circumstance is everywhere affecting all of us This time around, we wish to give Haitian women a voice and face. Circumstance breeds hardship, endurance and ambition… help fund our project and help us use our talent for a greater good.

Why Sponsor Us?
To continue social awareness for the poorest nation in the world outside of Africa by directly linking art and artists between the United States and Haiti. Profits from the book and exhibition will be donated directly to the support of each individual photographed: funding a future for education, a job and most importantly clean, safe housing and nutritious food. We would like to think that this is art at its finest—applying passion, craftiness, provocative thought, and real life stories all into work that speaks to the soul.

The Briefing:
In 2009, Formento+Formento spanned the United States in an RV, armed with pennies in their pockets, a camera, and Google as their guide to create “Circumstance”. Their approach to photography evokes a bygone Golden Age of Hollywood thriller romance ala Hitchock yet is emotionally charged to fit the depression that has hits home today. Identity crisis is the target in each photograph, aiming to evolve fabrications of the feminine ideal put out amass by commercial industries.

The Finale:
Publishing of photographic book & a traveling multi-media art exposition highlighting the Haitian spirit.
