The first international exhibition for Song Byeok, a former North Korean propagandist who now paints freely in South Korea.
World renowned Korean contemporary artist and satirist Song Byeok will exhibit twenty acrylic paintings, including six pieces not yet seen by the public, at The Goat Farm, an acclaimed visual and performing arts center near downtown Atlanta, February 17 - 26. Distinguished professors at Emory University, Georgia State University, and Georgia Institute of Technology have also invited Song to lecture about his life and art as part of a two-week tour of Georgia’s cultural and academic hubs.
A former North Korean propaganda artist, Song escaped to South Korea in 2002 after enduring imprisonment, torture, and the loss of family members to famine. Major international media outlets –– including Newsweek Japan, The Christian Science Monitor, and The Wall Street Journal -- have chronicled Song’s journey to artistic freedom.
Your Kickstarter pledge will help cover the costs born from Song's first exhibition abroad, including: 1) transportation of the artist, 2) shipping and insurance of the artwork, and 3) event insurance. All funds raised via Kickstarter will go towards Song's Atlanta exhibition, with all remaining funds earmarked for the artist's April 10 exhibition in Washington, D.C.
