Hey Jen - just checking to see how the book is coming.....
Kinda wondering about this project... Closing in on a year and a half now...
Getting close! Hope to be sending things out soon!
Time for a status update?
This is very exciting. Just got the notification for info!
Hi Erik,
Currently working with publishers- hope to have definite update soon!
What is the status on the book?
Best,
Erik
Hi Evan, I decided to answer your question with a project update, which you should have just gotten notification of. Thanks for the reminder to communicate progress!
Hey Jen,
Any update on the book's status?
Evan
Thanks, Waddell. An autograph party would be fun!
Thanks so much for the progress report and especially that glorious sunrise with the egret. Glad you are badged again. Looking forward to more stunning sunrise photos and eventually the book itself. I hope you plan an autograph party.
Dan, thanks for the reminder; I just posted one for you :)
Any update on the book?
@Ginger--I've personally never met Jen (heck, don't even recall how I ever started following her on Twitter), but have seen her daily Twitter posts and enjoy her work. I've backed it because I think it would be nice to have a consolidated collection of her work to share with friends and family as well as those who don't know about her daily Twitter posts to get a chance to enjoy her work.
Honestly Jen, this might be a mechanism for you to also kick-start Mercury Rising project (something I would love to see come to fruition). Granted, that project is a lot more involved than a book...
BTW--I see you've already hit your target with 8-days to go--congratulations!
@Ginger Look, we trust her, there's nothing more to it. We know it will get done and it will get done well. We don't care about timetables because we care about our community.
Jen - Thanks for the response. The link to this page was passed on to me and this is the first time I have seen KickStarter. I am not familiar with you or your work and it surprised me that more details were not provided. As others have posted it appears that everyone knows you and are investing in you and your talents and not just the book itself. However, outside potential investors would want to know more information - hence the plan/schedule. But, once again perhaps that is a flaw of kickstarter. It appeared from the project description that it was going to be self-published and that is why money would be needed (in addition to paying for equipment). Self-publishing (from friend's who have done it has required either money up front and the quality of what they had printed was less than desirable compared with what could have been done through a publisher IMO.) They were regular books, no pictures.
I second Mark's comment. Really looking forward to this book and prefer that it is published independently, otherwise it could take forever to get published.
Thanks for this great idea Jen, I am a happy backer of this project!
I am confident that all who have met Jen Scheer either face to face or online know her to be trustworthy. When Jen sets out to do a project it gets done, and done well! Any question as to her reputation will be met overwhelmingly with positive feedback from anyone who knows her. So doubters are invited to take a break and see her prove her integrity day after day after week after month after year, etc.
Everyone enjoy the KSC Sunrises Book, I predict it will be a keeper, connecting friends via the beauty of the Florida Spacecoast (hopefully with a little KSC awesomeness for good measure)
Jen, you GO girl.
Ginger,
This is not a business idea- that is not what Kickstarter is for. It is for funding a specific creative project. Also, it is not anyone's "responsibility" to provide money for the project. No one is forcing people to back the project. They believe in it and in my ability to create a worthwhile product and want to help make it happen.
I have not yet decided whether the book will be self-published or not. It depends on what works out the best overall. Self-publishing does not mean that the book will be of an inferior quality, nor does using a publisher ensure that it will be of a high quality.
Clearly you are not a believer in me or my work, and that is fine. I'm not sure why you felt it necessary to take the time to join Kickstarter just so you could proclaim it publicly on my project page. Implying that I am just grubbing for money and will not produce the book was extremely rude and uncalled for.
One would think if the book is really worth publishing that a publisher would JUMP at the chance to get their hands on this work. Self-publishing (as this project seems to indicate) will in all likelihood not lead to the quality that this book deserves. I'm also wondering why it is other people's responsibility to provide money to this person so they can buy new camera equipment and software in order to produce the book.
As with any business idea, I would expect to see a more detailed plan and schedule. What is the timeline? Will the book be ready in 3 months? 1 year? 5 years? What happens if the book never gets published? Will people get their money back?
This may just be a flaw of KickStarter ... and it's a way for people to just get money.
KSC is one of my favorite spots to visit anywhere in the US and Jen's photos do well to capture its beauty.
I have seen several of her photos via her twitter links and site, and often use them as my wallpaper. I look forward to seeing what she selects for the book. She has an eye for the sky.
