About this project

For the past few years I have taken photos of the sunrises on my way to work at Kennedy Space Center. Since January of 2010, it became a daily thing, and I tweet a daily sunrise photo each morning. Many of them can be seen here: http://bit.ly/KSCsunrises

I have amassed a nice collection of sunrise photos, some of which have elements that are unique to this location, such as plumes from pre-dawn launches that resemble fire-breathing dragons. I am going to combine the best of these photos into a book, and then pepper it with little bits of historical information about the structures that appear in some of the photos. These little-known facilities played important roles in the exploration of space, and I would like to capture them and share their stories before they are completely forgotten.

The funding for this project will go towards new camera equipment, photo cleanup software, and publishing/distributing costs. I have a large body of work to pull from, but I need some higher quality shots to really make the book what it should be. Both of my cameras are currently failing, (causing me to have to do a lot of time-consuming touch up work) and need to be repaired or replaced. I have only six weeks left at Kennedy Space Center, but I plan to finish out this year of sunrises by taking photos from KARS Park, which is NASA property and more or less an extension of the space center.
