FDT presents "LOL: An Evening of Dance and Laughter" November 2nd & 3rd. Our world-class dancers deserve dollars. Help us pay them!

We are ever so grateful to the Lubbock community for surrounding us with a tremendous amount of support... without which, we would not be where we are today. We are excited to bring you our Fall 2012 Concert entitled "LOL: An Evening of Dance and Laughter" November 2nd & 3rd at the Firehouse Theater, inside LHUCA at 8pm.

This Kickstarter campaign recognizes that Flatlands Dance Theatre’s dancers deserve not only our aesthetic admiration but also our financial consideration. We seek your help in ensuring that Company members for the 2012 Fall program can be guaranteed a stipend of $150 apiece in return for their dedication and commitment. Though this fee cannot possibly “reimburse” Company members for their lifelong effort and joyful creativity, it can serve as a recognition that what dancers provide us is precisely a beautiful product of those endless hours, and that we recognize and celebrate their human and unique individual contributions.

Tickets are available through Select-a-seat. They are $20 for General Admission and $12 for students, children, and seniors. Ticket price includes a $3 surcharge. Go to www.selectaseatlubbock.com or call (806) 770-2000 to purchase. Tickets will also be on sale at the door.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

The world-class artists of the FDT have dedicated their lives—that is, countless hours of watching, learning, studying, and sweating—to becoming the vessels by which creative art and beauty can flow through their hearts and bodies and into visible form. We are all enriched by their effort, artistry, and generosity. If we were to cost-out what FDT Company members earn against the lifelong commitment they have given to their art, it would come to a fraction of a penny to the hour. Yet in our modern world, artists are not often rewarded with even a minimal living wage. And to date, it has not been financially responsible for FDT to appropriately pay these deserving dancers.

Our risk, quite frankly, is losing company members. If we can pay them, even as little as $150 each, we show them that their craft has value and that we want them to continue to pour their time, their hearts, and their creativity into Flatlands Dance Theatre.
