The fishtankfarm is a small indoor garden perfect for growing your favorite organic plants, year round, with a fish tank!
I want to introduce people to the world of aquaponics which I consider to be a beautiful harmony between fish and plants. Once the aquaponic system has cycled with beneficial bacteria, it ages like fine wine. The plants grown in this system are totally organic and they are extremely flavorful. The fishtankfarm is a project I've been working on for several years. In the last year, I've perfected this system to the point that it's easier to maintain than a normal aquarium. You don't ever have to change out fish water again! Just top it off with non chlorinated water, once a week.

The way it works is quite simple. The fish get fed twice a day. The fish waste is pumped up to the grow bed via a water pump on a timer. The beneficial bacteria that live in the grow bed convert the waste into plant food. The plant roots take in the newly created plant food, filter the water, and return the clean water via gravity to the fish tank.

What kind of plants can you grow in the fishtankfarm? So far, I have successfully grown lettuce, basil, dill, oregano, thyme, cucumber, tomatoes, peppers, onion, strawberries, and all types of flowers. As the ecosystem matures (4 - 6 months) the plant growth gets better and better as more nutrients get released to the plants. Choose your color white or black.

Yes! It's actually easier to maintain than a normal fish tank. In a normal fish tank, it's necessary to do partial water changes once a week to remove nitrate build up. With the fishtankfarm, the plants roots take up all the excess nitrate and clean the water for the fish. Therefore, you never have to change out fish water again!

Feed the fish twice a day and top off the system with non-chlorinated water once a week. That's it!

Nope. People have commented on how soothing the sound of the system is. The only noise you hear is water draining back in the fish tank, when the water pump is on.

Nope. This might be the easiest way to grow a plant yet! Everything is automated with timers, so as long as you feed the fish and top off with water, your plants will be tall and proud and organic!

There's a couple of ways. You can buy non-chlorinated water at the grocery store. You can use rain water. You can use tap water, BUT it needs to sit out for 24 hours until the chlorine evaporates.
