Christopher attempts to hold together his unraveling reality long enough to deliver his revolutionary idea to the world.
ONE LINER:
As the fabric of his reality unravels in front of him, Christopher Robinson attempts to hold it together long enough to deliver his revolutionary idea to the world.
HOW THIS WORKS:
Kickstarter is a way for artists who don’t have access to financiers to “Crowdfund” projects. “Crowdfunding” means just what the term suggests- splitting the financing of a project across a large pool of supporters so that the burden is much lessened. Kickstarter is based on all-or-nothing funding, so if we don’t make our goal, the credit cards of our supporters won’t get charged.
The nuts and bolts: should you decide to donate, you’ll set up an account with Kickstarter, enter your credit card info, and enter the amount you want to conribute. Kickstarter then holds the charges on your credit card until the end of the campaign and charges everyone’s cards only if the goal is met. If it’s not met, then the film unravels just like Christopher’s world! We don’t want that!
BUDGET BREAKDOWN:
Camera, Grip and Electric- $2,000
Equipment rentals. Typically it would be tough to get just good camera rentals for $2,000 for a 3 day weekend shoot, but our DP’s got the hookups.
Insurance- $1,500
Gotta have it. No way around it.
Travel- $1,500
Plane tickets from LA ain’t cheap, and neither is gas to and from NYC.
Actors- $1,000
First and foremost, the story is going to be carried by the acting. We’re in conversations with a couple incredible actors now, updates to come…
Art Department- $1,000
Secondly, as evidenced in the video, production design is going to be the second key thing that’s going to sell Christopher’s world unraveling. Can’t skimp there.
Food – $1,000
For an amazing thirty person crew (and cast) that’s working three 14 hour days for free, it’s only fair that we feed them 3 meals a day. We got a great quote from a local business that clocked in at 1k- that’s just about $4.50 per meal- it’s incredible.
Daily Transportation- $500
This will cover van and truck rentals and gas to/from set and to/from Boston for equipment pick-up and returns.
Housing- $500
Unfortunately this kind of doubles as our location budget, we’re hoping to find a place local to Peterborough so the crew can crash at my house and the producer’s, but if not we’ll be looking for a place where we can shoot and sleep.
Sound- $200
Again, equipment.
So that clocks in at $9,200. Add in the 5% that Kickstarter takes, and an additional 3-5% that Amazon takes for credit card fees, and that’s $10,000.
The $10,000 figure is the bare minimum to make the project happen, and we’ve set our goal there as per the suggestion of Kickstarter- that would be enough to shoot it and edit it myself. But there’s still costs after that- a real editor, a composer etc. etc. plus all the costs for film festival submissions ($20-$50 bucks a pop), plus all the marketing costs associated with those once we get in, etc. etc. Any contributions we get above our goal will go directly to those costs.
IN CLOSING:
When the film is completed, it will be submitted to film festivals nationwide, and pending the success of that, worldwide. It's my hope, as mental illness is an issue that is very close to me, that Figments of a Father will help raise awareness of mental illness through its compelling, narrative format.
